You can name who officially suports Japan for that in Asia.

Second to none almost, Chinese influence changes a lot.

India
Mongolia
Malaysia
Philippines
Cambodia
Vietnam
Thailand
Laos
Bangladesh
Sri Lanka

Leaving China and Korea aside, I couldn't get definitive information as to whether the remaining Asian states actively backed or opposed the bid.

And don't forget, last December Philipine president openly called China a Good Big Brother in Asia in the ASEAN summit in Philipine, in the faces of 16 country's heads, including Japan, SK, Australia, India.....And nobody disputed.

Which country in Asia is called this way before? None

Who will set to fight a war against us in Asia? None, unless you want to be dumped by Asian countries.

And don't forget......

So you don't dispute a majority of Asia supports Japan's UNSC bid? You could have just said so, rather than force me to come up with that list.... :coffee:

Out of the Asian nations, that's not a bad list.

Count how many countries in Asia....

Maybe you could enlighten us with the names of the Asian countries that oppose Japan's bid, then? Because last time I looked, the list that supported the bid was longer than the one that opposed it.

so that just means Taiwan wont get the F-16 Block 52+ in time for anything then. But they are getting more AMMRAMs if I am not mistaken, supposely to counter act the deployment of PL-12s.

The M series SRBM, with GPS guidance, has a CEP of 100m, so for AFBs is accurate enough. Beidou is coming online soon, and presumely, it will provide accuracy equivalent to that of GPS(otherwise, why would the PLA even bother) in the East Asia region. Beidou will provide global coverage in a few years time IMO.

As for Japanese bid for UNSC, it's ultimately up to the permanent members of the UNSC, in which China is a member of, so if Japan wants it, they would have to kiss some serious ass both in the US and PRC. and with LDP and Shinzo Abe, that's not gonna happen in a miliion yrs.

They have to kiss more of the Russian ass because the Russians are even more hostile to the Japanese because of territorial disputes. The fact that Putin is getting more hardline these days does not bode well with the Japanese.

On the F-16 Block 52+ purchase, Taiwan has to clear up its shopping list first in order to convince the US its sincere about the issue and that its not a bunch of hot air. Seems to me that the Bush administration has their frustrations with the current ROC government.

Nonetheless, sooner or later this seems to be the likely option for Taiwan, unless they pick up on the F-CK-1C/D instead. The new planes are meant as replacement for the 90 F-5Es still in service with the ROCAF. The retirement sandclock is running down on them, so they have to inevitably replace them one way or another. I believe the ROCAF stated policy is to maintain a 400 plane force.

How is F-CK-1 C/D 's performance compare to F-16 A/B, the F16 that Taiwan currently operates?

and a 400 plane force sounds a little...small if they were to fight with PRC....as some of them might not be able to make it off the ground.

Actually, given the size and budget of Taiwan, 400 3rd~4th generation fighters is quite a substantial number. The F-CK-1 has shorter legs than the F-16, and its air intercept capabilities are inferior to the F-16's... but it's a substantial upgrade over the F-5. The updated version is supposed to be almost as capable as the first batch of F-16As, as far as I know.
