This submarine is supposedly being done with US tech support. Well the US has not designed or made a diesel sub in decades. Closest thing would be the support the US gave to Spain to design the S-80 submarine. So I would expect it is either an S-80 clone or a new design but diesel electric. So who knows the specifications.
Wait why make it diesel? Isn't that like Vietnam War Era technology?

It is diesel electric with lithium ion batteries. Just like the latest Japanese subs.
What is the point in making a submarine with AIP when it is going to operate constrained to the Taiwan Strait and other neighboring areas?

This article was the one with the most information I saw about the team which designed the sub and the suppliers.

what i am getting from this, is that taiwan does not really have a will to fight and that the PLA is alot more morden and technologically advanced if a war breaks out.
"Taiwan has a technologically advanced military that is tasked with deterring—and if necessary, defeating—PRC military aggression against the archipelago"

"Civil-military relations are strained for historical, political, and bureaucratic reasons. The archipelago’s energy, food, water, internet, and other critical infrastructure systems are vulnerable to external disruption. According to some observers, Taiwan’s civil defense preparedness is insufficient, and Taiwan’s military struggles to recruit, retain, and train personnel. At a societal level, it is not clear what costs—in terms of economic security, safety and security, and lives—Taiwan’s people would be willing or able to bear in the face of possible PRC armed aggression."

"Taiwan faces an increasingly asymmetric power balance across the Strait. The Communist Party of China’s military, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), has undergone a decades-long modernization program focused primarily on developing the capabilities needed to prevail in a conflict over Taiwan."

"Taiwan's Minister of Digital Technology Audrey Tang said she was rushing to complete the creation of a backup satellite network to ensure stable communications in the event of a conflict with China."

This Audrey Tang dude was a minor Internet celebrity when he came out as a trans back in the 90s. Endlessly hailed by Taiwan press as an IT genius since joining the current DPP government, though others not so enamoured with him/her say the ministry has been mostly a grift job, with fiascos during Covid and (IIRC) online egg reservation system back when Taiwan was short of eggs

One in three spies caught transmitting confidential information to China did so while serving in the military. The remaining two-thirds of military espionage cases involved retired officers. Officers who have retired and left military service should not expect to be treated differently. If they are found to have broken the law, they will still have to face the consequences of their actions - Taiwanese Defense Minister Qiu Guozheng

Regarding the Chinese People's Liberation Army offensive in Taiwan

“To invade Taiwan, the PLA Navy must have at least three aircraft carrier strike groups: one in the Guam area, one to deter the US and Japan, and one in the South China Sea.

It is predicted that China will be able to invade Taiwan by 2027.

However, China's aircraft carrier is still refueled by traditional energy sources and needs supply and transport ships to maintain its combat power.

Therefore, once it sails east, Taiwanese aircraft will be able to stop enemy aircraft, Taiwanese submarines will approach the aircraft carrier, and even the United States will try to stop it.” (c) Security Advisor to the President of Taiwan, Retired Admiral Huang Shukuang

Taiwan conducted an exercise simulating the defeat of a concentration of Chinese military personnel in the event of a conflict

On September 25, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, in the presence of Defense Minister Qiu Guozheng, inspected the command of the 234th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 10th Army.

❗️As part of the inspection, the training carried out an exercise, during which it was found that certain tactical techniques were borrowed by the parties to the conflict in Ukraine.

TRAINING PROGRESS

▪️ UAV control operators from the surveillance and reconnaissance platoon sent tactical drones to detect targets - positions of a simulated enemy grouping and adjust fire.

▪️ Three SM-22 self-propelled mortars (photo) positioned themselves and, with the help of a gunner, simulated firing at identified targets. Drones hovering in the air monitored the effectiveness of the shots and the results of the damage caused by the fire.

▪️Then, the AN-1 Cobra attack helicopter from the 602nd Special Forces Brigade of the Taiwan Army Aviation Command was sent to the target attack area and finished them off.

Taiwan plans to deploy two new submarines by 2027 and equip them with missiles to strengthen deterrence against the PLA Navy and protect critical supply lines, said Taiwan's presidential security adviser, retired Admiral Huang Shukuang.

Shuquan said a fleet of 10 submarines, including two Dutch-made submarines ordered by the Navy in the 1980s, would make it difficult for the Chinese Navy to project power into the Pacific.

"If we can develop this combat capability, I don't think we will lose the war." (c) John

The first submarine, costing NT$49.36 billion, will use Lockheed Martin's combat system and carry US-made MK-48 heavy torpedoes, he said. It will begin sea trials in October and will be delivered to the fleet by the end of 2024.

Subsequent models are planned to be equipped with American anti-ship missiles.

The longer the Ukraine crisis drags on, the more lessons Taiwan learns from it

Taiwan is preparing extensively for conflict with China. Equally important is the development of unmanned surface reconnaissance and strike systems on the island, which will become a formidable weapon for creating obstacles in the routes of PLA Navy ships, as well as in China's port infrastructure during hostilities.

At the 2023 Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition, Taiwanese company Thunder Tiger Technology presented a prototype of the remote-controlled Sea Shark 400 unmanned boat (pictured).

The boat has an aerodynamic shape and a video camera is located at the bow of the deck, allowing recognition. In the future, an attack version is expected to be created by order of the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense.

Features of the Sea Shark 400:
➖ length - 4 m;
➖ speed - 65 km/h;
➖ communication and control range - 300 km.

Previously, the Taiwan Academy of Sciences demonstrated the remote-controlled Yongwu target ship for the first time (video).

It is equipped with cameras, cone-shaped corner reflector, navigation and control equipment, radio frequency simulator and electronic jamming equipment. The radar cross-sectional area (RCS) is 500 square meters. m.

Yongwu Features:
➖ length - up to 8 m;
➖ communication and control range - 60 km.

Although the ship was designed as a target ship for air strikes, the academy noted that Yongwu has the technical capability to become a naval kamikaze drone.
