Some upgrade kits to F16AB to be completed over ten years with the first plane completed six years from now ? It won't reduce by much the pace of the expanding gap between the 2 military.
This deal is just mainly Taiwan paying their annual insurance premium to US.
I won't be surprised if it turns out US pushed harder for this deal than the Taiwan military. :)

That's not really the point, as everyone, including the Taiwanese, knows that it's all merely "annual insurance premium" they just have to pay to the Uncle Sam. What they try to do all the while is to make "military option" an costly one for Beijing, but with PRC neck-breaking speed of catching-ups over the decade it's getting "not that costly", but increasingly costly for Uncle Sam to stick his foot in should things heat up.

Besides, unless Taiwan can use some kind of reclamation project to shift the Taiwan island at least next to Hawaii, and with such an economy structure, Taiwan just can't run away from China, nor avoid the question forever, though the politicians (primary the DPP ones) will still from time to time fool enough of the silly masses the otherwise...

If your post is deleted it was too political or a personal attack. Neither of which is allowed in this forum. Most of you have been members at SDF long enough to know the rules.

FORUM RULES: Things to Remember Before Posting, important, please read!

Also Aero_Wing used the term Chicom. The use of this them is not permitted in this form.

The below was posted by me in the Forum rules thread

http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/announcements/last-jedi-speaks-4915.html#post119675

Today a newer member used the term "Chinaman" in their post. I edited that word out. DO NOT use the term Chinaman in your post. Why? Read below.

Chinaman is a term that refers to a Chinese man, person, or in some cases, a racial term for any person of East Asian descent. Although the term originated in usage that was not originally offensive in intent, and was listed in older dictionaries, its use evolved into a term often used against the Chinese and other Asians as they encountered increased discrimination and injustice in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Currently, usage of the term Chinaman is strongly discouraged by Asian American organizations and others, and considered offensive by modern dictionaries, dictionaries of slurs and euphemisms, and guidelines for racial harassment. It can be compared to the ethnic slur, nig*er, used for persons of African descent, which was also used as both a self-referential and pejorative description.

And the rules state;

The following posts will be deleted or edited;

* Posts that are offensive to any ethnic, racial or religious groups or government. This isn't political forum.

This person also used the term ChiCom. Do not use that term for the reasons stated above.^^.

These terms, Chinaman & ChiCom are offensive to many of our members.

THREAD OPENED!

DO NOT RE-POST OR COMMENT ON ANYTHING IN THIS POST!!!!!

The below is from the very first page of this thread. As drafted by gollevainen . Do not discuss or question the rules specific to this thread just obey them.

Ok It's time to open a new thread for the subject as the previous one had to be closed as you guys couldn't play nice...

Although our basic rules should prevent any of the past misconducts taking place, somehow even the members whom normally doesn't behave nastily, are loosing their grips over this matter. I know Taiwan is a controversial subject and raises strong feelings to direction or another but the forums policy doesn't give you guys room for those areas in which those strong emotions usually pops out.

So in order to get this thread moving smoothly, here are some more specific rules and things to be remembered.

Thread etiquette
(Drafted by Fumanchu from our request)

Please note that this thread is reserved for discussion of Taiwanese military news, developments, etc. The following is a list of topics and comments that expressly forbidden:

- Discussion of the China-Taiwan relationship.
- Why does Taiwan need an army/Why does Taiwan need to buy weapons?
- Taiwan should unite with China/declare independence.
- China/Taiwan cannot win the war.

Do not try to dodge around this list - it is not exhaustive. Please remember to adhere to the general forum rules too.

It is best to avoid all diplomatic, economic and political discussion. Focus on news about the change in the Taiwanese armed forces.

These code of conducts are being executed even more vigilance manners than in other threads so be aware of breaking them. Any moderation will automaticly mean official warning to the one who forces us to intervene with his/her posts, regardless of the scale or the persons previous reputation.

So despite this harsh opening, I welcome you all to come here and discuss about the military issues of Taiwan.

NT$80 million for fifty trainers? That's quite a bargain.

Edit: Never mind, it was NT $80 billion. Sounds like a new build project for AIDC.

The article doesn't specify what roles the trainer would perform (basic, intermediate, advanced etc.) and it states it may be looking for domestic or foreign designs.

Thinking about my comment earlier and this nature of this thread, it made me realize. If the ROCAF were looking for a foreign trainer? Who would sell them ones? While basic trainers may not tip any cross straits scales between the PRC and the ROC a sale of advanced trainers may cause another headache?

ROC can buy some L-9 or even L-15 from China :) great value compare to others

remember like Deng said "It doesn't matter if a cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice"

Rep. Howard Berman (Calif.), the committee’s top Democrat, indicated support for the administration, but says he is wondering when the White House will move forward with the sale of new-model F-16s.

The administration hasn’t closed the door to future sales. “We have not ruled out future aircraft decisions,” Lavoy says. “We understand Taiwan’s interest in F-16 Cs and Ds, and this is under consideration.”

We've all heard this before...
