The fact is the producers of BSG lucked out and rode a wave of positive hype. They turned a sci-fi show into a daytime soap opera with a lot of personal drama in order to keep it under budget. They could do all the drama in context with what the show was about. But they didn't do that which shows how lazy they were. Caprica flies in the face of the timelime mentioned in BSG and Caprica aired soon after it ended. Clearly not an honest mistake.

I wouldn't say the producers were "lazy" in turning Caprica into a day time like soap opera, but rather hastily trying to spin off another series of BSG by making it too cliche with the story line. They're trying to do the same with BSG as those producers of Star Trek Generation series with the DS9 and Voyager.

Actually I was referring to BSG as a daytime soap opera but Caprica too because they were trying replicate the formula of BSG. Earlier I pointed to Stargate Universe tried to do the same thing as well. What was lazy is they didn't bother to check their own work or didn't care. And because I forgot about Caprica, even more now how BSG was poorly executed.

The Star Trek series were different. They were made to be more episodic so each had a story of its own so if there were character drama it mostly was secondary to the story. I enjoyed DS9 because of the long arc of the Dominion War which is why I was highly disappointed with BSG since Ronald Moore was producer of DS9 too. DS9 was executed very well.

And of course, DS9 was a rip-off of Babylon 5. :)

Babylon 5 was one of the most under-appreciated Sci-Fi series of all time. Remember the original StarCraft cinematics? Those zerg guardians looked suspiciously like the Shadows of Babylon 5.

It's also one of the first Sci-Fi I've seen that makes use of "organic spaceships".

I liked the Shadow Wars of Babylon 5. But it was overacted and the lines were cliche and predictable. Me and my friends had fun speaking the lines before they did. I remember it was said to be a rip-off but what was similar. One was the UN in space and the other was at the center of a tug-of-war between powers.

It's also one of the first Sci-Fi I've seen that makes use of "organic spaceships".

Well I don't know where the concept of organic spaceships started but Star Trek TNG had them before Babylon 5.

Agreed. It was written well with a continuous plot and not just jumping around from episode to episode.

Didn’t Farscape use organic ships first?

Nah, Organic space ships have been around a while, i think in sci-fi the earliest example would be in Heinlein's Starship Troopers, but in film or television Star Trek has had numerous living ship concepts around throughout its history.

Also Lexx came before Farscape if you're talking about main focus.

Babylon 5 debuted in 1993 (pilot movie, series followed in 94) whereas Farscape followed a few years later (1999). Lexx appeared shortly after B5 too in 1997.

Thanks for the time line. where I live they didn't appear in that order. I also would have like to have seen more of Gigi Edgley (Chiana), but I still have dreams for Claudia Black.
