Okay now we are getting into politics. First correction, Nazism is as a political ideology is based at its roots from what we in the US would actually put on the left. Its a model based on socialism but modified to engrave deep in its core the ideas of eugenics a popular pseudo science of the early twentieth century and the pseudo historical notion of the greater European race. The modern Nazi movement is accused of being right wing as it takes its roots in the anti government factions of modern culture. This is based on a misinterpretation of the political theory. The Nazi or National socialist party of Germany is also confused for a right wing party because of its reaction to communist parties. But the communist parties of Germany at the time were heavily influenced by the Russian Bolsheviks where the Nazis were nationalist. This is apparent in that although both fought each other later on, early on they often appeared at the same rallies and protest and often recruited from the same base with the same slogan's. The other reason why people will claim the Nazis were right wing is the disillusionment of unions and secret societies. Problem with that argument is the Russian government also abolish labor unions and secret societies.
as for American fascists in the 1930's there were a number of American Nazis in fact there was even a large rally held in Madison square garden. But these were not unique to the US and Germany. Nazi style parties were actually very common around the western world. The black shorts were a British Nazi style organization for example. A lot of the nations that would be annexed by the Germans had national socialist parties who happily opened the doors and were quickly rewarded for there allegiance. Even today true nationalist socialist parties prosper all over the world. Yet are they really following "Americanism" really its a weak argument and if Paul Vandhooven were to try and make it I think he would and indeed any one who try's would end up spouting rhetorical nonsense.

next the movie starship troopers has the event start with the encounter of the asteroid with the Rodger Young the encounter is a surprise and it leaves the Young damaged and unable to contact command. Its a plot point for the opening of the conflict. There are and will always be conspiracy theorists but I point to two things in the movie one the incident I just described two in a earlier scene in the movie, Carmen flew her ship though the fleet base that was later seen blasting meteors. She flew that shuttle right though the place that turret would be. And in the earlier encounter the young did not blast the meteor . This leads me to two conclusions. One the Rodger Young class lacked the firepower and sensors to detect said meteor, two fleet also had not considered the bugs or meteors launched by them until after the Rio event. Too this I also add the Mobile Infantry training. It was human to human based. Rico was trained to fight people. The hand to hand combat, knife throwing, Capture the flag, body armor, weapons and equipment were classic examples if a Hollywood movie military. And optimized for human on human. The Novel details use of powered exoskeletons and individual missile systems better suited to human on bug. I do agree with you that at times in the movie it seemed like there was and may have been human on human action for example the "Fort Joe Smith" propaganda left me wondering.
but if intended to show some racist or racism I am afraid the movie fails. The bugs were obviously a real threat and impossible to negotiate with. The biology class scene makes it clear that eventually it was going to be a orkin man war.
"we humans might think we are natures finest accomplishment but take the arachnid, has no fear no concept of self preservation, can hurl its spore into solar winds and colonize space..." or something along those lines. As for Americanism being or bringing about the idea of a race war... My friend reread your history. Race wars predate 1492 AD and far before 1492bc to boot. Even today its a hot issue happening all over the world. But in the case of the insects its a whole different ball game. If they wanted to try and make a race war dramatization they used the wrong story. The bugs as shown were hardly race based they were a evolutionary aggressive species... A perfect analog for the human virus perhaps but communicate? Negotiate with what? Do you ask a ant not to attack you when you step near its hill? Can you make a deal with a bear so she does not maul you for getting between her and her cub? Its a better analog for man vs nature.

now I will go you one better another movie bomb that actually I feel plotline wise actually make the case you say Paul Vanhooven was trying for. SOLDIER, staring Kurt Russell as Sgt Todd and Jason Scott Lee as Cain 607.

the movie flopped in the box office. But pulls no punches in its American fascist state. Its plot includes a military unit being sent to wipe out refugees because its to much paperwork, and "would be good experience for the men."
it has a lot of the same plot holes as starship troopers but lacks a lot of the raw gore and SFX. Its considered something of a poor sibling spin off of Blade Runner. But it seems to me to actually make the case with out the pussyfooting of starship troopers.

I have read so much Sci-Fi over the years I cannot even begin to count the books and series.

I really liked the entire Honor Harrington Series by David Weber, though he did have the tendency to get lost sometime in the minutia of either the technology or the social issues he was referring to at the time.

Still, a very good, epic sage of distant future sci-fi interstellar war.

Another was the Empire of the East Series by Saberhagen. I got it when it was released as a large, single volume in 1979. A great Sci-fi/Fantasy tale that really gets you thinking. Saberhagen, like so many of the other greats (Heinlien, Niven, Asimov, Clarke, etc.), has a lot of good stuff.

Ring World novels, The Mote in God's Eye, the list could go on and on and on!

After reading the above posts, I need to check out the Starship Trooper movies and see the complete Babylon 5 series.

Man last night me and my friend rented the horror film, "The Conjuring" and that was quite scary. It's been a long time since I've seen a well made horror film in awhile. I rank it right up there with the original "Exorcist" movie.

Both movies were written by the same screenwriter, David Webb Peoples, who also wrote Unforgiven. Also when I was in film school David Webb Peoples visited and mentioned that Soldier was a futuristic take on the 1953 Western, Shane.

I don't know if Arnold is attached to the movies but he's getting long in the tooth. The last terminator movie Rise of the Machines he did you can see he had a pouch.

I went to see the "Hunger Games" second movie last night and it was great. It's not as gory like the first one but the story has gotten more interesting with all the twists and turns. Now I can't wait to see the final and third movie.

I was hoping the TV series will go into how John Connor (leader and commander of the human revolt) and his group of rebels will fight off the Terminators and thus end the ruling by the machines by Skynet.

Probably too expensive for the TV show.

I'm wondering what critical moment they're talking about in the first Terminator movie that the films goes one way where the TV show will go another. Every other character died. The only angle I can think of is the birth of Cyberdyne because of what's left of the first terminator sent back. But then they sort of played on it in the second and third movies.

Is it just me, or do theEarth Force uniforns from Babylon 5 look very facist type? Good series, but the special effects look very "cheap".
