Of course there are people watching them but not as much as the men's league, unless they are in the lingerie football league (umm...that's a whole different kind of league) for all the guys to watch.

Other than that I support my local women's team the Houston Energy (getting back to the real football). I haven't seen a game of their's yet, but wish them lots of luck.

Wow! This is my first time hearing the Houston Energy. Is it professional? Most high school/colleges don't even have a women's football team. So where did these professional teams recruit? Like Popeye, I didn't even know women played football until today...

Lingerie football? Now that is something I am eager to watch!

In the US American football is the #1 sport.
Well there are actually several ways to look at the top sport.

I believe that the most important is by how many people watch, attend, and listen to it each year. That is the real measure of the Top Spectator Sport IMHO. Including attending it, seeing it on TV, Cable, Satellite, hearing it on radio, etc.

Another way to measure is by average attendance.

Another is to measure it by participation, meaning how many people actually play it across the country each year.

Another is to measure it in revenue, meaning how much did these sports earn over they year in ticket sales, promotions, etc.

Another is to measure it by TV and Radio ratings. Which one has the highest ratings through the year.

Some people measure it by the largest watched, attended, or heard single event, like the Super Bowl, Indy 500, NBA Championship, World Series, etc.

There are different answers for many of these, so several sports claim the "title," from time to time.

For example, NASCAR will say that throughout the year, with the thousands of tracks, and the long season, and the TV, Cable, and Satellite availability, that more people watch and attend, and hear it than any other sport, so they deserve the crown...and there is truth in what they say, looked at it from that perspective.

Major League baseball will say that since Major League baseball has over 30 teams that each play 162 games per year, that they will win in total at game attendance so they claim the crown...and there is truth in what they say as well.

I still believe however, that overall, if you take all of the measures and see who is 1st in the most and who has the highest average score in all of them, that American football will win. I mean, imagine all of the thousands of High School football games played every Friday night all over the country...and then add the JV and Jr. High Scholl games on Thursday nights, not to mention all of the college games on Saturdays, semi-pro, and pro games now on Sundays.

Lots of sporting going on! LOL!.

Exactly.

Several times at skyscrapercity Europeans like to hate on American sports stating that there should be more NFL teams because the US population is so high. They always point out that larger European cities have several soccer clubs competing. Many state this without realizing that the top 120 NCAA college teams average attendance is 45,000 a game. More than any European soccer league.

Also not realizing that at the beginning of the Football season MLB & minor leauge baseball is winding down.

Yes it is professional. It is still in its infant stage, but I hope the league will grow into a competitive and respectable sports for women.

World number one Serena Williams, seeking her 17th Grand Slam title, leads a charge of 31-year-olds into Friday's US Open semi-finals, all of them hoping to become the event's oldest women's champion.

Defending champion Williams faces Chinese fifth seed Li Na while Italy's 83rd-ranked Flavia Pennetta will meet second seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus at Arthur Ashe Stadium to determine the finalists for Sunday's title showdown.

Williams, Li and Pennetta are all 31 and would surpass the current age mark of Australian Margaret Court, who was 55 days beyond her 31st birthday when she captured the 1973 crown.

With six weeks holiday leave which I must take (use it or loose it)I will be in S.F. Next week to watch the Americas Cup. The NZ team are very confident that they will win the cup, even more so after the American Oracle team have been penalised to be two races down for cheating.
Personally I think they should have been disqualified altogether for their cheating.IMO what they have done is like letting Lance Armstrong compete in the Tour de France again after he gives everyone a half hour head start.
After that if N.Z. win I'm gonna propose to my girlfriend and then head down to Las Vegas to check out the legalities of getting married there.

Serena Williams will get a shot at her fifth U.S. Open title after beating Li Na 6-0, 6-3 in the semifinals on Friday.

Williams’ run of 24 consecutive games won in the tournament ended when Li evened the second set at 1-1. The streak covered the conclusion of Williams’ fourth-round match against Sloane Stephens, a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Carla Suarez Navarro in the quarterfinals and the first seven games against Li.

It was another strong performance from the defending champion, who overcame a late wobble to finally convert her seventh match point to advance to her second major final of the season (Williams won the French Open).

Williams will face No. 2 Victoria Azarenka on Sunday in a rematch of last year’s final, which Serena won 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. The last time the U.S Open singles final featured a rematch in back-to-back years was in 2001 and 2002, when Serena and her sister Venus contested both.

Serena is 12-3 against Azarenka. But Azarenka has beaten Serena in two hard-court finals this year, including a three-set win in Cincinnati last month.

Game-by-game analysis of Serena’s dominating win over Li after the jump.

Olympics to rock Tokyo in 2020!!

Godzilla named guest of honor to light Olympic torch...jk.

I'm surprise they won. Because South Korea will host the winter Olympics in 2018 therefore the IOC would not go consecutive Olympics (as in both summer and winter) in the same region. Anyway, congrats to Tokyo.
