Members of the Philippine Marines run for cover during the fourth day of standoffs with the Moro National Liberation Front rebels in downtown Zamboanga City ...
Philippine Marines supported by a Philippine Army Simba armored vehicle fire at MNLF terrorists in an operation to rescue scores of hostages being used as human shields by the terrorists on the fourth straight day Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 in Zamboanga City.
Who are those marines aiming and shooting at?
Look to the top right corner, you see a few people standing there looking at those soldiers and I believe there is someone on a bicycle. Are those terrorists or just innocent bystanders?
The Government Soldiers are Firing Towards the Far Right Side and Not Directly to the Right Where PNP SAF Forces are Standing ...
Seeing them deployed in the middle of the street like that drives me nuts if this was actually taken during combat operations. An NCO should be raising hell and telling them to take positions of cover fore and aft of the APC.
Otherwise, from the preceding picture they appear fairly well kitted out, although lacking in optics.

A Government Soldier Straps a Rosary to his Uniform While on Patrol in the Streets of Zamboanga City ...
They could be a fire support squad in providing cover for the advance team. The unit don't look to be in the direct field of combat from the looks of the picture.
Not a good idea, snipers and spotters can spot him with that brightly colored Rosary, anyway I don't want to take away an infantry good luck charm that could save his life.
to clarify its not a dust cap its a dust cover. The cover opens on its own via a spring mechanism when the bolt moves like when the weapon is fired or a round is chambered or ejected. But it does not close after a shot is fired automatically it has to be manually closed it being open does not affect the operation either So when I pointed it out I meant that only one of the M16s in the picture had evidence of being fired. As only one had a open dust cover and troops engaging targets are not going to close the cover.Which is funny if those marines are providing cover... and the dust cap are not removed... how could they shoot and those people that are being 'covered' by these group of marines better pray hard because they will not be getting any covering shots from soldiers that cannot fire their weapon.
