Local Media is also reporting .....

The funny part - and please do not rate this as an insult - local Pakistani media have the tendency to „not always stick to the facts“! … as such and especially since there is not yet even a true J-31 but only an FC-31 demonstrator and several J-35 prototypes there will still several years pass bye, the Political climate and so economics can change.

I wouldn‘t rate thsi already as a given fact.

isn't it obvious that if PAF can afford it, it will buy J-31/35 or whatever it will end up being called? What other option do they have?

Okay, you can list the Turkish project, but it's not going to be on the same performance level

why ought I should?

The reporter who provided this news, I'm pretty sure, has no idea what he's talking about. Media is media.

Not even KAAN is avaiable, GE engine
U.S. refused to issue export licenses for the Heli engine, Almost impossible they will allow now the Fighter engine.
FC-31E is their only option

PAF's early purchase may in fact trigger India to seek F-35s / speed up their programs, there is no need to push bureaucracy in India.
It's not like PAF is sitting on tons of money. AESA+PL-15s on 75-125 platforms should keep InAF at bay until early 2030s.

I think China will trigger India in the next 1-3 years anyway.

The Indian Air Force currently has less than 700 fighter jets and is barely expected to grow.

India will soon realise that the Chinese are adding 90+ J-20 per year. So there will be over 700+ in total in 5 years.
