Pakistan is already a partner in the Turkish TAI KAAN project
I believe it is more of a Schrödingers cat situation. It is and it isn't a partner at the same time :D

I think the J-31 is more suited for Pakistan's geography and the platform is much more mature than the Kaan.

But seeing as the Indians aren't getting a 5th gen in this decade, the J-31 acquisition can take a while to happen.

We must bear in mind a few other facts as well. First, the PAF, PN, or PAA will not induct any weapon systems that are pro to sanctions (as a policy), and since KAAN is in current status is all US/EU hence its chances of success are very low, if not nonexistent (T129 is the perfect example), until it receives Turkish-made engines and other systems, which is not likely to happen in the distant future.

Only the ejection seat, engines and a certain sidestick are foreign, which all are planned to be replaced by indigenous alternatives in due time.

I don't consider that as "all US/EU".

As I said in my previous post, PAF already suffered in the T129 fiasco; as a result, KAAN will have very little to no chance till Turkish Engine is in serial production, and this is at least a decade away to happen.

This is the same guy who had claimed numerous times that Paki pilots were supposedly flying for the TuAF or that the newly launched Hisar-class OPVs are "based on" Pakistani Babur-class Frigate (which is actually just a normal, lengthened Ada-class Corvette with CAMM-ER missiles) :D

Since a poster misunderstood what I stated, let me clarify. I meant to say that the induction of Turkish engine will take time and the timeline (2032 - 2035) is entirely reasonable if test flight will occur in 2027.

Hope this suffice someone...

And to be honest, it is IMO some sort of overkill for the PAF ... and if they are even able to found and anyway purchase it is a totally different story.

Let's be serious, the J-35/-31 is the most realistic option.
That's true, KAAN's presently American engine raises a big question mark, not only for Pakistan, but also Turkey and the local Turkish engine is sometime away.

In either case, It's not a super-pressing matter. AMCA wont be in service until around 2040. That is plenty of time for China and/or Turkey to further mature their 5th gen platforms / start incorporating 6th? gen tech into the platforms / develop loyal wingman systems.

PAF's early purchase may in fact trigger India to seek F-35s / speed up their programs, there is no need to push bureaucracy in India.
It's not like PAF is sitting on tons of money. AESA+PL-15s on 75-125 platforms should keep InAF at bay until early 2030s.
