Nice !

2 prototypes under going testing

3rd prototype hopefully flys next year in 2018 carrier capable for the Navy

Pakistan puts in $500 million into land based programme

Then PAF starts getting deliverys after JF17 Block III is complete somewhere around 2021-2022

By that time the platform matures and PAF gets a true high end 5th generation fighter under project Azm

In the meantime Block IV starts with stealth features

In 5 years we have JF17 Block 4 and FC-31

J-31 has a bright future

wow that is a lot of kites you are flying in that post asif. :) If the FC-31 is developed into a carrier borne fighter it will not be an ideal platform for the PAF. A catapult launched aircraft incurs a significant airframe weight penalty which for an airforce fighter is just dead weight reducing flight performance of the plane.

JF-17 Block IV is just a concept study done by CAC. I don't think it has evolved into an official project yet.

He made the distinction between the naval FC-31 for the PLAN and the land-based version for the PAF.

I know. A land based version will still have the same airframe as the carrier plane it is derived from. If you go to the length of changing the airframe, you might as well design a new aircraft from scratch. In reality, what is likely to change on a PAF variant is the sensors, datalinks, avionics, munitions because export variants of these systems will be installed.

The FC-31 is designed to be modular and flexible to each customer's requirements, but there will be a difference between a land-based and carrier-based FC-31.
