What do you mean?

WS-15 will provide F119 class thrust, from which the F135 was derived from. But evidently SAC want their medium weight fighter to be twin engined for whatever reason. If either company wants an F135 class engine for a single engine fighter or whatever a few years down the line I'm sure XAEC will oblige to look into it.

And CAC/SAC do not build their own engines... other institutes develop and manufacture them. Just like the rest of the world.

The aircraft fuselage design is also a major consideration in the decision whether to use a single larger engine or 2 smaller engines with about the same thrust. Most stealth aircrafts have flat fuselages that continues to the engine fairing/nacelles, so using 2 smaller engines will have a better fit to the flat engine faring/nacelles than using a single engine with a larger diameter.

J21 suits perfectly Pakistani needs. It does not need the huge range of J20. Almost zero strategic depth/ It does probably not need that big internal bays. It does however need more short range highly agile WVR's, AESA, stealth and agility. So just like J11 the J20 is nice for big nations with big pockets. I find Deino's comment on Keymag about wetdreams concerning J20 in Paf service a bit incorrect and strange. Popular attitude Which I find degrading.

What if Pakistan needs a long distance precision strike purposes? I'm sure any Pakistani Air Force general would love to have that option.

I disagree, SAC will want a PLA customer first before they go ahead and market it abroad. It's a different situation with JF-17 where pakistan was already a customer in ink on paper. Unless they already have allocated money to build the half dozen prototypes usually needed for testing new aircraft, SAC will not get very far beyond the second or even first (or even paper!) plane. Now the chances of the PLA allowing a foreign, non allied country (and most countries are not particularly close to china anyway) invest into what will be a relatively advanced aircraft in such an early stage is small, so I assume PLAAF or PLANAF are already interested in it.

And two 9.5 ton engines aboard a medium weight 5th gen sounds about right. Together they are in the ballpark of F-35's F135.

We're going to have a bloody field day trying to sort out WS-13 from RD-93 from the future 9.5 ton engine goodness.

Anyway, they're now saying China indeed has a next gen medium thrust engine project, beyond the 9.5ton one, that's a few years behind WS15.
I bet they'll eventually use it on J21.

it's strange we never hear about this next gen medium thrust engine project.

Why can't CAC or SAC just build an F-135?

F135 is just a bigger fan on a product improved F119.

May be SAC has an eye for the navy contract?

We have, it's been out for a year or two now but everyone's attention was on bigger fish

I think so too; it would be PLANAF's F-35 to their F-18E/F (J-15)

But I'm not sure I like the idea of SAC monopolizing the naval fighter arena.

Rest assured, that 611 institute is not giving up on Naval aviation.

I am looking forward to the day, when all is said and done, that the history of proposed designs from 611 and 601 would be told,

just like the history of proposed designs from 1960-70 and 80s is told.

Hold Back Bars!!!!

It seems i miss that

there will be competition between SAC and CAC for the naval fighter like for the J-20.
