Surely not, the WS-15 is a F119-call engine with a much wider diameter. As such I assume at best a replacement wngine (RD-93) similar to the different coloured AL-31FNs we've seen on the J-20.

Comapre with colors of other parts of aircraft, it does appeared that the engine noozzles are different in colors.

It could be WS-13, but then it is more likely differences in reflection of light because of relative position. Both the shapes are the same, so unless WS-13 is much like RD-93, I would say that this does not indicate dissimilar engines.

Come on ...

It is not possible to confirm whether these CAD images are from a corporate source, such as SAC's 601 Design Institute, or perhaps the work of a student from the associated Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, which was involved in designing a flying scale model of the J-31 first seen in 2010.

As such it means "I have no clue" since they could show an early iteration of a project, of the J-31, maybe even the tri-plane contender to the XXJ or simply a study ... but it gives a nice story about "Whhhhaoooaaaa, China is developing a STRIKE-version of the J-31 !" = give more money to the F-35-project !

My guess is that it's the original tri-plane configuration for the J-XX. None of the writing on the diagram indicate a specific identity for the plane.

Speaking of which, I was going through those early pictures earlier this week, and I was struck by how similar the actual J-20 was to those models we got as early as 2006-7. Anyone else find how remarkably silly it was for all of us to guess at what the J-XX would look like, and it turned out to be exactly like the earliest leaks rather than the later ones?
