Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

Never heard of Valance... I do like Will Pan, Jay Chou, Wang Leehom, Jolin Tsai, Tank, He Jie, Iron Bamboo

For Korean it's mostly Rain

For Japanese it's Ayu, Hikki, Dongfang Shenqi etc

(Strange, most Japanese singers I like are women, most Chinese singers I like are men)

I used to listen to English music, a long long time ago, like Eminem, Green Day, Diana Krall, Three Days Grace etc.

Anybody else into Chinese/Korean/Japanese music here?

Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

I put up Holly Valance because she's one of the worst Western pop(American rap is crap.... Actually, I donno any good rapper that is alive.) singers I know of. It's all lip-sync. (Britney Spears use to sing for real at least.)

Dude, DBSK is Korean.........

I am VERY old school when it comes to Asian music:
Taiwanese: None. (It seems that ABCs have a natural hate for Jay Chou; those from the East Coast loves Jay Chou.....) Maybe F4, and Teresa Teng sings well.
Mainland: I know only Alanlan (Thanks, Crobato) and Han-Hong.
Cantonese: Jacky Cheung, Vivian Chow, couple of others, but nothing pro-98.....HK music died after 1998.....
Korean: some DBSK, Alex Chu, Lee Seung Ki

Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

LOL. Well, a lot of Korean bands/singers are invading China and/or Japan. Look at Boa Kwon.

F4 is over, but I don't pay attention to TW music in general.

The sad thing about Meteor Gardens is that the Japanese and the Koreans are now doing their own version of the show....

Robot Hookers tipped to tempt future torists:

Tourism futurologist Ian Yeoman from Victoria University gave a preview of what the world could be like in 2050.......Robot bar staff, hotel rooms that chang color, cruise ships as large as aircraft carriers, and even robot sex are part of the future for travellers, a tourism conference was told.............Hmmmm

Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

Is it me or are the traffic systems designed very poorly in general in the commonwealth, namely Canada, Australia and New Zealand? (Except maybe Toronto, Melbourne, and Montreal.)

I mean, when you overpopulate a region like Los Angeles, traffic jams are unavoidable and only the train can get you home faster.
But when I am looking at the cities of the Commonwealth, they usually are no more than 5 million in the entire region, and yet during rush hour, in Vancouver at least, you feel like you are in LA. I could walk back to my hotel faster.

Whoever came up with the idea of intermittent, disconnected motorways that goes from Downtown to the middle of town w/ lights surely are asking for jams.

Makes you want to strangle the local mayor when you are in town.

Re: 60th Anniversary National Day Parade

I

BTW, seeing some of the pics of the women rehearsing... I have to say they may meet the height requirement but most of them I wouldn't call "pretty."

I certainly didn' see any Demi Moore, types amongst them, but there were some that had a certain type of attractiveness about them, besides it wouldn't look right having women who are more at home in a Vogue Magazine Fashion shoot, pretending to be in the army.

Western standards of beauty differ. There were some that fit the Chinese/Asian sense of beauty but most of the ones I saw did not fit the Chinese sense unless you put make-up on them.

I just saw a recriutment add for the Marines on TV where you see a long line of them at different iconic US sites. Guess what? They all were the same look, height, and build too. Not everyone in the Marines or any other service all look like that either.

Re: 60th Anniversary National Day Parade

So gents..true or not?? And did they do the same thing with the men??
well, i wouldn't think any "young office workers" would be willing to stand under the sun for half a year (beijing summer is not for the feign of heart) while giving up their nice air conditioned office jobs. college students maybe, but I simply can't imagine young office workers... I also doubt the army pays them much for the parade.

on the other hand, if you think about the recruitment rule for PLA, theoretically it's still a conscription system; therefore, every chinese citizen can be considered as a member of the PLA. in times of total war, these citizens are most likely going to end up in the militia since they have the least amount of training. so using civies for militia in the parade is not exactly "wrong".
