Re: New members introductions - New members Introduce yourselves

Believe me, they've tried. AND I have also sreiously thought about it too. My grandpa was a doctor and he has been a role model for me and all my cousins. So I did seriously think about it. But I find doing research is a lot more exciting than seeing patients. I feel more like an explorer when doing research (finding new knowledge and all). After all, I did become a doctor, the other kind of doctor :D

BTW, do you know a comics website about Ph.D.? It's hilarious and true.

My son informed me that Auckland Uni. does offer a bio engineering, its a sub group from the Engineering Science Dept and is attached to the school of engineering.

Some of his friends do it and find it quite interesting.
Meanwhile hes quite pissed as he has to compete for resources .with the Bio engineering dept.

His 4th yr project is to make a computer controlled test bed for a resuscitator and he's not getting much help from his mentor etc etc.

By the way he has a good friend who is doing a conjoint engineering and science degree from Northern China (I think) I must ask him.

His parents have had NZ residency for more than 15yrs but they still live and work in China, meanwhile he lives on his own out here in a home his parents have bought for him.

Re: Casual talk...Have fun!

I saw this interesting program about this guy who had converterd one of those old Atlas missile silo bases of the Cold War Era into a home near lake Placid.

It had a new additional home on the top , while 20-40- ft below, the control and living quarters of the 40 odd men that were stationed there, was converted into a thoroughly modern home with all the whizz bang conveniences.

The property is currently on the market for 2.3million, it comes with 85 acres and its own landing strip.

I really dont think much, of modern Asian Music, IMO it lacks the richness, feeling and body of Western Singers, Blues, Rhythm N Blues sung by Black A mericans is what I enjoy. and PEKING OPERA
My favourite record, Is one of Peking Opera,in vinyl dates back to 1958 when they toured NZ
By modern Asian music, who are you pointing to? But some of them surely are no better than Valance.

what do you mean order? if you are talking about the professional development course i mentioned, then it's exclusive to university of waterloo. (which is a part of the reason why it's so gay)

I must admit none of them have impressed me enough for me to want to know their names.

A long time ago i remember reading that at the start of America's industrial reveloution there was a school of economic thought that did not believe in intellectual property rights, and anyone could freely use the information.

This line of thought had a great deal of traction even several Presidents right up to the thirties.liked the concept. Can anyone whose done economics or some such paper remember what this school of thought was.

This lining of thinking is too much like communism, i.e. only works in an ideal world. Intellectual property right is what inspires innovation. I'm glad they finally gave up this thought

No it wasnt communism but I remember the writer of the article, suggested USA might have been better for it, if that line of approch was adopted.

However my son has gotta pick one of two topics to write a essay on Professional and Sustainable issues, as part of the professional papers that all near grads, have to participate in.and he hates it.

Heres the topics ,views anybody. One has to consider both sides.

1/Intellectual property protection in Engineering hinders invention.

2/Engineers understand risk, the public do not, therefore engineers should proceed irrespective of public perceptions.
