PGK kits have potential to go to within several times of a shell cost. Or maybe lower - mechanically they're simple and mass-producable enough.
Strictly speaking, they're even now less expensive than, say, first modern explosive shells with mechanical fuze were compared to ball munition.
It's a matter of production numbers, ultimately.
People usually don’t realize that mechanical fuses are expensive too

PLL-09 122mm wheeled SPH firing procedure. It looks super old school with manual paper calculation, hand crank for elevation, and all that. It seems like they just chuck a D-30 variant onto a ZBL-08 chassis and call it a day.

I do wonder if PLA will modernize these with computerized FCS and electric elevation & traverse (If it didn't have those already).

Watch it again. They compared the old school method with the digital FCS method starting at 11:45. The old method took 4 minutes 35 seconds but the new method only took 45 seconds

hello
does china have a howitzer similiar in performance to the M1299 prototype

China's current 155 mm SPGs achieve similar rates of fire and ranges. The ERCA is the US catching up with Europe and China. They will be a bit ahead when the ERCA becomes operational but not by much.

China also has the PLZ-05B in development. We might see upgrades in barrel length, max pressure and chamber size. Everyone expects it to be significantly heavier than the current vehicle. The PLC-181 fills the need for a light and affordable 155 mm howitzer. And anything beyond 80 km would get a 300 mm or 370 mm rocket.
