What Jeff presents to us here, is obviously the Northrop SM-62 Snark. An american nuclear armed (W39 warhead) surface to surface cruise missile (the only one the US ever fielded) developed after WWII as a stop gap messure until ICBMs would become available. It was in service with SAC from '58 - '61.

Scratch is exactly right.
The SM-62 Snark was a short lived stop gap before ICBMs. Started training in 1958, received 1st production missile in 1959, became fully operational at a sinlgle base in Maine in March 1960, and then were deactivated in June 1961 after 30 missiles were deployed when the new ICBMs made them obsolete.
Range was 5500 miles, speed was about 600 mph, ceiling was 50,000 ft, they weighed 60,000 lbs, and carried a single W39 (3.3 megaton) nuclear warhead.
