Now Russia will be patrolling the northern west Pacific and the sea of Japan with their new Helo-carrier.
It's getting crowded in those waters with Japan, ROK and now Russian ships patrolling the area.

India Concerned About Fifth-Gen Fighter Work Share With Russia
By Jay Menon

October 21, 2013
NEW DELHI — Indian government officials are expressing concern over the country’s work share in its Fifth-Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) collaboration with Russia.

“We have a major opportunity in the FGFA program,” Indian air force (IAF) Deputy Chief Air Marshal S. Sukumar says. However, “at the moment it is not very much in favor of Indian development. We are flagging it through the government. It should be much more focused towards indigenous development capability.”

India’s work share in FGFA research and development and other aspects of the multi-billion dollar project at the moment is only around 15%, even though New Delhi is bearing 50% of the cost. The total program is expected to cost India about 1.5 trillion rupees ($25 billion).

Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony is expected to discuss the progress of the FGFA program and the IAF’s concerns with Russian defense authorities during his visit to Moscow on Nov. 15.

“Apart from the cost factor of the FGFA project, the defense minister is expected to take up the issue of India’s share in the project, since it will have an impact on the country’s indigenous capabilities to develop such an advanced fighter aircraft,” a defense ministry official says.

India and Russia signed a preliminary design contract worth $295 million for the FGFA in December 2010, and the design phase of the joint venture program was completed in June. Currently the final design and research and development contracts are under negotiation between the two countries. “These talks are expected to be concluded next year,” Sukumar says.

The final design contract now being negotiated is pegged at $11 billion, with India and Russia sharing $5.5 billion each towards the cost of design, infrastructure build-up, prototype development and flight-testing. Each fighter is expected to cost over $100 million.

The IAF intends to buy around 300 stealthy FGFAs, made jointly by Russia’s Sukhoi and India’s state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL). The fighter should be ready for induction from 2020 onwards.

The aircraft is a derivative project from the Russian single-seat Sukhoi T-50 or PAK FA being developed for the IAF. Currently, four T-50 prototypes have performed more than 200 test flights since January 2010. The Russian air force plans to begin inducting the fighter in 2015.

S. Subrahmanyan, managing director of MiG Complex at HAL, recently expressed confidence that the first jointly designed prototype will be ready in 2015 and the induction of FGFA could begin as early as 2019.

HAL will get three Russian prototypes for re-design and testing in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and will hand over the first series-produced aircraft to the IAF in 2017, Subrahmanyan says.

India had initially pitched for 166 single-seat and 48 twin-seat fighters, but the IAF now plans to stick with single-cockpit fighters to reduce costs and protect stealth features.

This year Russia granted permission to 370 cargo ships to pass through the Northeast Passage that is compared to 46 last year

Russia is on a huge naval build up much of it is focused on the Arctic as this region is going to be a big trade route in the coming years

Everyone is going to get caught sleeping including the UK if action isn't taken quickly, Russia is already planting flags at bottom of oceans

Canada need to build up its navy if it doesn't want to be outsmarted by the Russian navy in the future, Russia just showed what it is prepared to do with Syria, this is why I believe atleast one Queen Elizabeth Carrier Strike group will sent up north or stay north to counter any Russian move

:D:D:D

So , what are you proposing , Canada and UK to try to station ships along (mostly frozen ) Russian Arctic coast , in full view of Russian Naval Aviation . Better read this article :

That is assuming that the global warming pundits are in error thunder. If they are right then the ice sheet is going to retract big time. That said Canada, the UK, Greenland, Iceland and the other northern nations have just as much a right to the pole as Russia. Patrols though it however are best served by SSNs of the northern states and that means the UK.

If global warming and melting occurs all of the mentioned countries will have much better things to do then to squabble over Arctic , because half of their coastal cities would be under water . ;)

As for "right" , it is always proportional with might . UK didn't become great naval power by right , but by might of their navy . Currently , as far as I know , Russia is only country with fleet of nuclear icebreakers . They also have lots of conventionally powered . This , coupled with their strategic position , guarantees them large chunk of Arctic resources .

There will always be a certain amount of land grabbing involved.
I believe there are patch of land underwater rich in natural resources that was not accessible when covered with a thick sheet of ice.
Outside of another nation's EEZ it's anybody's oyster.

But not all of there fleet is operational and it's likeley that it will have to contract thatnks to a shrinking population, reduced Economic stance and equipment Age.

as for to busy with flooded citys. Never underestimate the Human ability to fued over seemingly meaningless things in a crisis situation, especialy when those humans have goverment titles.

RIA NOVOSTI said:
MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) – Russian aircraft maker MiG has started flight tests of series-produced MiG-29K/KUB carrier-based fighter jets slated for delivery to the Russian Navy, the company said Tuesday.

The Russian Defense Ministry signed a contract with MiG in February 2012 for delivery of 20 MiG-29K single-seat and four MiG-29KUB two-seat carrier-based fighter aircraft.
MiG is expected to deliver the first four aircraft by the end of 2013.The aircraft will operate from Russia's sole serving carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, based in Murmansk with the Northern Fleet.

The Admiral Kuznetsov currently operates Sukhoi Su-33 naval fighter aircraft.

The MiG-29K is a naval variant of the MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter jet, and has folding wings, an arrester tail-hook, strengthened airframe and multirole capability thanks to its Zhuk-ME slotted array radar, MiG says. Unlike the Su-33, which is capable of air defense missions only, the MiG-29K can be armed with a wide variety of air-to-surface as well as air-to-air weaponry and laser-designation systems.

The aircraft is also capable of “buddy” refueling other MiG-29Ks using the PAZ-1MK refuelling pod.

The Indian MIg-29K deal for the Vikramaditya has cemented the future of the Mig-29K. The Russians will use for their KUznetsov and future carriers, and the Indians will end up buying enough to outfit three carriers. Ultimately at least five air wings, if not more.
