Looks like Putin is showing the world that despite a 10 day absence he is still alive and well and in full control despite allegations otherwise.

I find it interesting that he calls on this massive readiness exercise while NATO is also doing something similar with the Joint Viking naval exercise close by. More chest thumping I guess.

The Russian Northern/Baltic Sea fleet is nothing to sneeze at though. Not as powerful as they were in the 80s but certainly still a very formidable and potent group with SSBNs, SSNs, Slava, Kirov, Sovs and a bunch of Udaloys.
