Now that is an antique, prolly find a couple on the "American Pickers" television show when Mike and Frank visit Russia in 2015. That chick is "dangerous" shades of Mig -21, that is history on display, I would not want to get bounced by a bogey flying that rig,,,, you'de prolly kill yourself on your first stick pull and roll in to get away, looks like "departure city" to me, I'd guarantee that chick would roll over and eat your lunch?? Fighter pilots have always been brave men, I doubt there are "any" chicks who would fly that bird, can you say "widowmaker"??

That's kinda 2nd gen aerodynamics, think much worse than the F-4.

Now THAT aircraft...it seems to me...could make an EXCELLENT MPA for the Russian Navy. Modern, great range, lots of room. Would make a heck of a Ruskie answer to the P-8A Poseidon.

Exactly, that's what I thought it was, it is a very pretty airplane, and seems that winglets are back in style?

The aircraft to be honest is new to me, in Russian it is called самолет-разведчик Ту-214Р which translated to English means recce aircraft and it has been spotted over Japanese waters in 2013 it is said that it can detect the enemy radars, air defenses and listen to conversations of ground services and pilots.

that is one of the most beautiful aircraft the USSR ever made, it has an excellent hull lose/accident record, but sadly very few have been made, it has been operated even by very few western airliners

this is the observation version of Tu-204-200 equipped for Treaty on Open Skies missions.

Well, this means they are using a few as Electronics Warfare or SINGINT aircraft.

MPA aircraft can also fulfill some of those roles but add Anti-submarine and anti-surface capabilities as well like the P-8.

Here's a comparison:

I do not think the jet has the same role, its role is more akin to the RC-135s main role.
the Tu-214R, ROC "Fraction 4", "article 411" - the aircraft for integrated opto-electronic intelligence (ORTR). it was developed by the design bureau "Tupolev" for over 10 years. This aircraft is based upon the passenger aircraft Tu-214 series. The Production of this new aircraft is assigned to the Kazan "CAPO Gorbunova." factory.

It is equipped with the multi-frequency RTK MRK-411 system. It consists of several circular and side-view radars; and the electron-optical system "Faction" of high resolution. ( main developer - TPK "Lincos." ) the System is mounted below the aircraft radome. The optical system provides a real-time image of the area required in various ranges
