Proposed Sukhoi HAL FGFA (PAKFA's) cousin. Putin is traveling to India from 12/11-12/15? Apparently one of the topics would be negotiations for the FGFA deal.

I have a 1/350 scale model of the vessel that I will be adding to my Russian Carrier Strike Group later this winter...perhaps in the Spring.

I already have the Kuznetsov 063 CV, the Petr Velikiy 099 CGN (Kirov Class), the Chabanenko 650 DDG (Udaloy II Class), the Gepard K335 SSN (Akula II Class), and the Severodvinsk K329 SSN (Yasen Class) in the group. I have the Slave Crusier yet to add.

You might be right, But last I heard she was in a very poor state, good enough for scrapping.

Anyway I did a little search and came upon the link shown below - Follow link : Russian text

Well, in 2009 Russia announced they would modernize all four Kirovs. But then in 2012 they indicated that Ushakov and Lazarev were in such bad shape, particularly their reactor cores, that it would not be feasible and their overhaul plans were cancelled.

As of now Nakhimov is being modernized (she entered dry dock in October of this year), Pyotr Veliky, which is in service and very capable as she is, will also be modernized as I understand it after the Nakhimov refit. My understanding is that they are targeting 2018 for re-commissioning Nakhimov. I have heard absolutely no new plans to do refit and modernize the other two.

These basic facts are all re-iterated in the following article from October 31, 2014, from the Barents Observer

...

Please do, Jeff!

I like the Slava-class because of the appearance, which makes it immediately visible you don't want to be on the receiving side LOL three the most ugly components are, in my view, from bow to stern:
1. the АК-130 gun (especially when firing from both barrels at once :)
2. the 16 Sandboxes, of course, and
3. the Top Dome (providing guidance for the Fort): 4934505320_b235e3aeb8.jpg

Russia's Missing Mistrals

Amy Svitak
Tue, 2014-12-09 07:32
Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Francois Holland met Saturday at an airport near Moscow to discuss continued fighting in eastern Ukraine, but Putin told Russian media that Hollande's suspension of a contract for two French Mistral-class helicopter carriers did not come up during talks.

“We did not talk about Mistrals, even did not mention them,” Putin told Russian news agency TASS, adding that he is hopeful the €1.12 billion contract will be fulfilled.

Signed in June 2011, the deal called for the first amphibious assault ship to be delivered in late October of this year. But in September Hollande suspended the deal, asserting Russia must meet two conditions before the delivery can proceed: respect for a sustained ceasefire between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces and a lasting political solution to the crisis.

Since then, Hollande has said neither of the conditions have been met, and in a Nov. 25 communique, the Elysee said delivery of the ships has been indefinitely postponed.

More recently, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said in an interview that Russia should realize that France “may never deliver” the ships.

In response, Moscow has said it will accept either delivery of the ships or financial compensation.

"Both -- the warships or money -- will suit us," presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters Dec. 8.
