China is importing a lot of electricity from Russia

I wonder if this is another avenue of cooperation between the two countries. Russia has too much natural gas, so it can build a few plant on its soil and then more powerful grid line to China and just export electricity directly. Or it can produce hydrogen fuel that way and sell to China. Another possibility is China working with Russia's to build wind turbines in Russia Far East and then Russia can export electricity from that to China. Russia has a lot of large empty swath of land in Far East that could be turned into gold mines by just putting wind turbines on them.

Named the cost of domestic aircraft SSJ New, MS-21 and Tu-214. MC-21 is two times cheaper than the Chinese COMAC C919 and almost three times cheaper than the Boeing 737 Max 8

Import-substituting SSJ New is even cheaper

The authorities have disclosed the cost of domestic liners SSJ New and MS-21. Information about this is contained in the investment project for preferential leasing of Russian aircraft, which has already been signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

It follows from the document that the minimum cost of an import-substituting SSJ New for Aeroflot will be 2.256 billion rubles (approximately $33 million at the current exchange rate), the cost of the MS-21 and the passenger Tu-214 is the same and will amount to 3.144 billion rubles (approximately $46 million). ).

Both SSJ New and MS-21 are, to a greater or lesser extent, analogues of the Chinese COMAC C919, the European Airbus A320 neo and the American Boeing 737 Max. And here, of course, it is interesting to compare prices.

The cost of the Chinese COMAC C919 at the current exchange rate is approximately $100 million - in the production version, this aircraft turned out to be much more expensive than expected at the design stage. The price of the Airbus A320 neo is about $110 million, the Boeing 737 Max 8 is about $121.5 million. It turns out that domestic airliners will cost their operators much cheaper than if they bought foreign aircraft.

Recall that earlier the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that Aeroflot would receive 18 MS-21, 34 SSJ New and 11 Tu-214 aircraft within three years . As follows from the investment leasing project, Aviacapital-Service (a subsidiary of Rostec) will purchase all these aircraft. During the project implementation period, the cost of SSJ New will increase by 9.2%, to 2.464 billion rubles. including VAT, and MS-21 and Tu-214 - by 4.5%, to 3.285 billion. The cost of all 63 aircraft will be 175.4 billion rubles, all this amount will be attracted from the National Welfare Fund.

I think high tech manufactured goods are generally cheaper when you consider low production volume. It just show impact of low debt level of government and society.
MS-21 is wider plane than A320/B737 with large interior bins of wide body that helps in quick turn around.
SSJ new is more in A320 class. more powerful engines can easily lengthened the airframe. SSJ is now used in practically same routes as A320. It is width of plane that define the class. narrow body vs wide body. these prices are with low serial production when you compare it with Boeing/Airbus.

Russia is extending their eVisa which started last year to quick-approve travel visas for Chinese tourists. Russia also polled as one of the most desired tourist destinations this year for China. Hopefully this'll be the start of a growing trend of loosened border restrictions and cross-cultural exchanges.

Russia and China will jointly hold more than 600 sports events in 2023, according to a pact that was recently signed between the two countries.

News of the development was

by Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin on Thursday, who expressed his gratitude “for our teamwork and effective work” and for “the integrity of our Chinese colleagues in terms of cooperation.”

“This is a good example for other countries, for the whole world. Such relationships minimize the risks of society’s turbulence and set an example. I wish you all peace and sports victories,”
Matytsin said via video link.

The years 2022 and 2023 have already been declared years of cooperation between Russia and China in physical culture and sports by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Matytsin said there was “no doubt that this year would go down in the history of sports relations,” pointing to the Russian-Chinese Winter Youth Games as a “real highlight.”

“On behalf of the Russian Federation, I want to express gratitude to the Chinese side for holding these competitions at the highest level,” Matytsin added.

The Russian-Chinese Winter Youth Games were held in Changchun, China, from December 16 to 19, and Matytsin revealed there were plans for a huge competition between SCO countries China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan next year.

“We value our relations, and sport is a good example of how to build relations between people. We are working on holding the Summer Games for the SCO countries,” Matytsin explained.

Furthermore, Matytsin also hinted at Russia and China exchanging coaches. “The cooperation program involves the exchange of experience, including coaching,” he said.

“We need to see what interest our Chinese colleagues and the Russian side have, [but] we see no obstacles in this direction,” he added, noting that there are currently some restrictions for the coaches of Russian national teams to work in China.

“Priority is given to working with our [Russian national] teams, but there are joint training camps,” Matytsin continued.

“We talked about handball, volleyball, and other areas. If such proposals or applications are received from the Chinese side, we will carefully consider them and provide assistance. It is important for this work to be centralized.”

one thing that could be good is set up wind turbine R&D centers in Russia in addition to selling Russia wind turbines, to sell electricity to China. Russia has pretty good mechanical engineering capabilities, though when it translates into actual production, there are quality issues, so why not take advantage of their engineering capability for i.e. modeling and component development, and leave the production and core IP in China? Also helps them keep engineering talent that might otherwise leave the country.
