Hendrik, you need to cool down a bit, although what challenge is saying isn't correct on both counts. There is a standard of decorum that must be observed by all members.

Challenge, the Chinese aviation industry did develop the Y-10 liner, then the Y-7, and finally the Y-9 and ARJ-21. But developing a two to four engined cargo plane does not appear to be such a priority that they would rather expedite it by using available designs. After all a mule is a mule, does not really matter where it comes from. China appears to want to concentrate development efforts on more visible and "sexier" projects. As for the Russians, there is no lack of innovation coming from them. There is no proof that by being Communist, they were less innovative.

Unless,of course there's outside assisstance, according to chinese web site, China hire 4~6 Russian submarine designer to act as a technical consultant.
when KJ-200 clashed last year, among the death are several foreigner.there's is possible that Chinese aircraft design also benefit from foreign engineers.Few years ago, while watching Phoenix TV about Konka TV R&D lab among the engineers are several "white face" or foreign engineers designing cell phone.

Consultancy can be a lot of different things, hardly proof on consultancy on structural design of the aircraft. Foreigners can also be there as observers as potential buyers.

This might be off topic, but I’ve been told that the reason the B2 cannot fly at supersonic speeds is that when a flying wing exceeds critical Mach its starts to pitch up and down uncontrollably. That means that if China’s H8 can fly at supersonic speeds then they have overcome a technical difficulty that the B2’s designers could not. Despite that, a flying wing has less form drag which means it has very good flying characteristics.

If all this is true about the H-8 Bomber, then it is a positive step from China. I hope it would be a success.

back to the topic...
I'm highly skeptical about the very existence of H-8 project. The focus of PLAAF at the moment seems to be upgrading its H-6 fleet rather than developing a whole new generation of strategic bomber. The fact that B-52 is still in service may led them to think is it still very viable to use cold war era bombers as long as they equip them with long range cruise missiles and improved avionics. Also I'm not sure the central military committee is willing to spend all that money to develop something like B-2 or even B-1b

Wow, that look like a B-2 spirit. IF H-8 is indeed being developed, it will be a huge addition to Plaaf strike capability.
Afterall, H-6 cannot hope to survive in a 21st century warfare.
I've read that an American Engineer worked for (northrop) of Pakistani desent sold information about B-2 spirit's design blueprint to china and was later arrested in hawaii for espionage.
Can anyone confirm that?
