In the Field troops don't swap scopes. and nor would they swap FCS on the fly. That only happens in video games. reality is chances are once it's set other then the occasional battery change and lens cleaning it's going to stay on. Your not going to have a soldier carry 3 or 4 FCS systems optimized for Ap rounds, AB rounds, Training rounds, ecta.. ecta... the weight and bulkiness would be more trouble then it's worth. better to have preprogrammed ballistics data and a manual switch that would allow the user to change mode to match ammo in use.

No, that was not what I meant. I meant the soldiers can pick and choose the appropriate FCS for their mission at a FOB without the need to have to rely on an armourer or technician.

Also it is not going to be a different FCS for a different round. But you may have a different FCS for a different missions. Since the range finder is a part of the FCS, there may be situations where the standard laser range finder may not be suitable, and an alternative method such as the passive stereoscopic versions may be more beneficial.

Sounds more reasonable, although I doubt a regular Infantry unit would be in line for such seems more like something a specialized Recon unit would have.

The striptease continues. The photo is sharp enough, but it's only partial. Sigh...

P.S. The helmet is finally designed or being worn properly, instead of the old way in which the entire forehead was exposed. And what's lying on the ground in the background there? New body armor/vests or rucksacks?

Looks like rucksacks to me on the background.

He's got a throat mike and it looks like a radio on his left breast. he's also got a tube routed over that side. at first i thought it was a hydration system but it looks more like a wire possibly part of the digital system. He also has the same helmet mounted display we saw on the digital set seen in the Airshow. we can see the bolt on the ZH05.
How in the heck is his sling sitting like that? it defies physics.

Nah, that's just the moment shot of the photo when the sling so happen to be in mid air before it comes down.

that makes more sense as that sling would have to be Viagra stiff.

any way follow with me for a moment the throat mike on the left hand side has a wire that runs into the radio on his chest. that has a wire that pops out and runs into the pocket under it. and that pocket has the thick wire that runs over his shoulder. but wait because on this right side there is a longer wire that runs down behind the rifle stock and then coils and leads to something under his right hand. A second radio? Some US troops particularly SF carry two radios one on the team channel for squad coms the other for use in contacting support assets like vehicles. and his insignia lacks the crossed rifles so that means he is what a PFC? so he's not likely to be in a leadership role, so having two radios is a bit unnecessary unless he's the units motorola ( radioman)

Thanks for this picture.

From the bolt-action receiver/bolt we could assume that the grenade is rather sizeable.

With the single-role design and thus with reduced electronics and more explosives, it would be quite effective for being a 20mm grenade.

That 'wire' seems far too thick for it to just be a wire for anything a soldier might carry.

My guess is that its a long range antenna for the tac radio or a GPS/Beidou based navigation and/or communications receiver.

The ZH05 has a good scope with laser range finding built in. It would make sense for the PLA to try to piggy back on that fixed investment to add additional functionality for marginally increased cost while multiplying the combat effectiveness and usefulness of troopers armed with ZH05s.

Depending on the strength of the onboard laser, the ZH05 could potentially be used to laze LGBs and/or set geotag targets for GPS/Beidou guided weapons.

Depending on the bandwidth and transceiver strength, the soldier could potentially also stream live gunsight video from the ZH05 sights to HQ.

Adding a good long range radio and/or satcom to the soldier armed with the ZH05 could open up all sorts of interesting possibilities.
