Seriously, why'd a carbine need such a scope? Won't red dot sight with flip-over magnifier be more appropriate setup?
It’s not unheard of. A SBR of 10.5 inch’s usually have an effective range of about 300m. Now for LEO or mil a LPVO at those ranges isn’t bad. Particularly for LEO as if the glass is up to par you can identify what the potential target is carrying. World of difference but it’s going to require a lot of training, both class room and range to milk that.
Optimally I agree with you would be better on longer barrel length. A 1-4 or 1-6 would be my preference and cut off on a 10.5-12.5 inch barrel. Particularly to the latter on a 5.56 but that’s a 5.56mm the question is the 5.8x42mm and its pressure point and energy loss from a 10.5 inch barrel.

Tanzanian and Vietnamese troops get a chance to try out QBZ-191. I don't recall seeing foreign troops handling QBZ-191s before.

There are news that China is exporting a 5.56 qbz-191 model to Thailand:

Can someone that surfs BilliBilli stuff look for more details of this variant?

Apparently, they tested variants with several calibers. I'm not sure if those sketches are especulative or what.

Those pictures are fanmade, I know the artist and he does these theoretical design drawings for multiple weapons. For example, he has a concept art of a AR-15 style weapon chambered in Chinese 5.8.

A 5.56 QBZ 191 has some merit in it since multiple sources have said the same thing, such as a Canadian export version chambered in 556. Not sure about all the other calibers though.
