The rear iron sight is part of the lower receiver. Will probably need to change the entire receiver if we want to remove it. Probably a good time by then to make more changes and introduce it as a Gen 2 version of the rifle.IMO if you're saying that in response to the torch being mounted clamped to the barrel (i.e.: insufficient handguard length), I think the long version of the free floated handguard upgrade posted before (most recently in posts 2964/2965) is perfectly fine, even if it does have a front cutout for the adjustable gas regulator.
That said I do also think a full upper receiver upgrade kit for SOF could be useful as well where more changes can be made perhaps to the barrel to have a slightly heavier profile, and also removal of the rear iron sight, making the gas regulator lower profile to enable a continuous upper rail etc.
Thanks for the correction, I remembered incorrectly. I still want to remove that stump on the rear sight and make everything flat.

Why do you want to make it flat? I can see scopes can be mounted slightly closer to the barrel if you remove the front sight as well. For a rifle like this, potential error increase from the slightly higher offset is small relative to the accruacy of the weapon (this rifle probably has 2-3 MOA accuracy). A military rifle should always have an iron sight and if you make it flat you'd need an add-on rear sight (there may not be room for a recessed popup sight), probably not as sturdy/durable, judging from my AR experience. Thanks for the correction, I remembered incorrectly.
