there are a lot more than 2 094s from those satellite photos we've seen. And contrary to sinodefense page, there are far more than 2 093s. The truth is we don't know how many there are.
What we are seeing is quite a number of nuclear subs in Chinese naval bases using GE and in tourist photographs. A few are refurbed Hans and Xia, but it does not explain the rest of the subs that appear, like for example, six in a North Sea Fleet base alone.
Pic is in Google Earth. Of the six, one is a boomer, whose length suggests its the Xia class that was refurbished. The other five are nuclear attack subs. At least three are bigger than the other two, which suggests, the smaller ones being refurbed Hans, and the three bigger and thicker ones are 093s. In addition, a 093 is spotted in another NSF base using both GE and internet posted photographs, while another 093 is spotted in the SSF base in Hainan through internet photographs. In May of 2007, Google Earth posted an image of Huludao shipyard, where two brand new 094s are in the dock being fitted and the tail of a third sub sticking out of the assembly hall.
Next time, before you ask any questions I suggest you read all posts in the thread. You can find your answers there before you even ask.
apparently a new mixed flotilla with 3 Yuans and 1 Song. I can't remember if PLAN has 4 or 8 subs per Flotilla. Anyhow, this indicates at least 3 are in service (although I thought we saw a 4th one last year in the beginning and never saw what happened to it later). Not sure if one of the 3 is the original 039A or not.
I suspect the one on the right side might be the original 039A. The Song is one of the earlier ones. A flotilla consists of four subs, but it does not mean the subs shown in the same picture all belong to the same flotilla.
