Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

we never know Jeff ... 86 is not that old.

I know a few people still healthy even they are 88 and still go for a walk almost every morning
Oh yes...I agree. And do not get me wrong, I will be happy to see that day.

We have a neighbor, who attends church with us here who just turned 100 years old. He is still getting around fairly well, and his mind is all there. Bill is a good man, whose wife has been gone for 16 years.

But given the malignant cancer I have already had (and, with God's grace to this day survived), and the disabilities it has left me, I will be happy and very grateful to see 75 years, another 18 years from now. In fact, I am extremely happy to have gotten three years past it and seen three new grandchildren born!

But, as with all other things...time will tell!

I might not be a doctor, but I believe in karma. You are a good man, Jeff. You will get to see past 88 (I am sure) :) Be happy.

Thank you, rhino...I believe good comes to them that seek to do good to others.

But sometimes, good comes in various forms. I have found a lot of blessings, insight, and knowledge in the severe physical health issues I have faced to date. It has been a blessing. Not easy, but something that has taught me things, and brought other members of my family closer to us than almost anything else could have done...and I am grateful for that, despite the hardship.

So, if I am called home, I will look on that the same and have no regrets. Conversely, I will feel likewise if in fact I do reach such a ripe old age.

Thank you my friend...and God's blessings to you and your family.

Excuse me if this question has already been asked.............but.........is there any reason as to why the Chinese leadership has suddenly given everyone details of the history of their nuclear submarine program?

Well the truth is there is nothing earth shattering in it. I mean western analysts have been guessing most of this stuff. Some times rightly some times wrongly Its possible they released it for a couple of motives
A) domestic: give a sense of pride in there blue water force, boost recruiting and get the nationalist flame burning in hearths and home.
they seem especially proud of there safety record.
B) international: a openness offensive to help keep soft power alive for China, it warns Chinas enemies well reassuring china's allies.
3) propaganda: India's sub program is particularly I think targeted here as the PLAN is trying to show there safety record vs the younger and much more tarnished Indian nuclear submarine program.
this release may be a propaganda diversion away from other stories that might not look as good. like how far the carrier program seems compared to the Indian Navies'.

It wasn't about safety record, but the fact that the lead boat has been decommissioned.

B) international: a openness offensive to help keep soft power alive for China, it warns Chinas enemies well reassuring china's allies.
I don't think that is the purpose here, since exterior shots of China's latest submarine would do better in regards to what you've said than pictures of China's very first nuclear submarine.

this release may be a propaganda diversion away from other stories that might not look as good. like how far the carrier program seems compared to the Indian Navies'.
I actually fail to see how Liaoning being far ahead of India's Vikramaditya can be considered as a story that doesn't look good.

Well, that's a Yuan class SSK. Is it a brand new one? An improved version?
Every boat is an improvement.

a lot of folks on Chinese boards are saying its because those subs are about to be decommissioned. so there isn't anything critical to expose so they minus well use it for PR.
