PLAN Type 035/039/091/092 Submarine Thread

Re: Two Type 094 variants

The model is definitely a cut and paste of the older American George Washington Class SSBN model. And it was a good design for its time. They were at sea over 25 years. (1959-1985)

I know the Type 094 is out there with 12 missile tubes. I am waiting to see actual pics of the improved Type 094, if it exists, with 16 tubes.

Where did you first hear about the new improved 094?

Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

According to huitong, there is a rumour that one type 095 SSN is being built at bohai shypyard. Similar to LA class.

How credible is this?

Re: PLAN submarines Thread II

Well we've known 095 must have been under construction for a while now, and apparently a picture of it was taken and put online before quickly being removed.

The description of it being similar to 688 (not the improved version) is kind of strange though, given 093 is already near identical to 688. So what I would garner from this is that 095 is making progress and we might see pics of it in due time but whether it still looks like an LA or whether it's seawolf/virginia is yet to be determined.

Re: Two Type 094 variants

you can't have a new variant of type 094 with 16 missiles tubes and no humb
it should be a new class and will be given a new number (type 096??)
for now there are probably 3 type 094 and another one in early construction

Presumably you >_>

I personally doubt there is a second 094 variant out there. If it was credible at all it would have leaked over to english forums with greater testimony than a single poster who's known to make overoptimistic predictions before.

Re: Two Type 094 variants

If someone said there was a 094 variant configured as an SSGN, I would at least think it possible, but to go from 12 to 16 tubes is a massive increase in size in itself and very improbably, to remove the hump would mean an even bigger increase in size and make this rumor extremely unlikely.

If such a SSBN exists, it would be a different class to the 094 in pretty much every way possible, so it would not be called a 094 variant.

Re: Two Type 094 variants

Would it really? The DELTA I class (Pr. 667B Murena) had 12 missile tubes, but DELTA II (Pr. 667BD Murena-M), was stretched by 16 m (from 139 to 155 m) to accommodate 16 tubes. But that certainly did not make the hump go away – on the contrary, it grew higher with each successive modification – DELTA III (Pr. 667BDR Kalmar) and DELTA IV (Pr. 667BDRM Delfin).

Reversely, YURIY DOLGORUKIY (Pr. 955 Borey) was first designed to have 12 tubes for the huge D-19M Bark missile. When this was cancelled, it was redesigned to carry 16 of the lighter Bulava SLBM. And this time they succeeded to reduce the hump to a reasonable size.
