PLAN SCS Bases/Islands/Vessels (Not a Strategy Page)

Very nice set of pictures.

I presume they are all of Woody Island?

Progress in reclamation is impressive, the island near the end of the

runway used to be connected by a narrow causeway.

Now they filled up the area between the causeway and the runway.

Also notable is the pictures with the blue containers.

The open one clearly has large diameter Reverse Osmosis filters installed inside.

I don't know exactly but the first two pics are of Woody for sure. I think the rest are of various places in the Spratlys, mostly Johnson South Reef because that one had shown blue containers. As you've stated, at least the ones in the pic show Reverse Osmosis filters so I think it's production of water for the crews and project work. That ditch with lining may be a temporary water reservoir?

I've always speculated the land reclamation on Woody between the runway and Rocky Island would become an airbase on Woody, large enough to base planes there to provide quick reaction force in the SCS and if a SCS ADIZ gets created, will be a pivotal component to the ADIZ.

Those blue container suspected of being living quarters actually houses desalinisation units, for providing water to mix cement and make concrete.

Thanks for the pictures, joshuatree! Are they aerial or satellite photography? Can we expect to see them on Google Earth soon? FYI, those three small pictures in the bottom right of the big photo show Vietnamese-controlled islands. I'd love to get some high resolution photos of the construction on Fiery Cross and Gavin Reefs. The Johnson South Reef base is smaller than I expected. Earlier conceptual drawings included an airfield. But the base can easily be expanded.

my old man was there during all the islands' constructions, he actually got bottles of sand from different islands. some of the sand was actually dead reefs that were dug up and smushed into little pieces

I don't know the details to all of them but the imagery of Johnson South Reef is credited to Airbus DS Spot Image SA so that's satellite for sure.
