Yeas the ligth hulls of MCM is a douple edged sword really. In their main functtion, the GRP hulls are essential for mine advoinance and shock-resistance
(for example I remember that the Tripartie mine hunters superstructers are desinged so that if Mine blows them off, they just collapse like Japanese silkpaper walls during earthquake causing limited ammount of damage to the hull itself and to the equipment and personel)
But offcourse this brings issues when sailing in rough seas. But then again, AFAIK the mine hunting or sweeping isent task to be done in storms.
For the speed issue, its notable that the last MCM that soviets desinged, the Gorya class was intended to be quite fast 20kt+ for the same reasons stated above, but along with its other high demands the price of the ships rose into astronomical levels and the VMF simply havent afford to build them.
...wich remains me about the MCM role of the USN LCSs. Has there been any indications to use them as a fast fleet MCMs?
