Bad taste for the PLAN to send a spy ship to monitor an exercise it was invited to?

Looking at the 2 ships, I really don't get the sense that Mercy is 5 times the displacement of Peace Ark.

The Mercy does look bulkier and more heavy duty though.

She was built as a tanker and then converted to a hospital ship.

USNS MERCY was built as an oil tanker, SS WORTH, by National Steel and Shipbuilding Co., San Diego, in 1976. Starting in July 1984, she was renamed and converted to a hospital ship by the same company. Launched on 20 July 1985, USNS MERCY was commissioned 8 November 1986.

Looking at the 2 ships, I really don't get the sense that Mercy is 5 times the displacement of Peace Ark.

Oh.. but it is my friend.

Jeff posted this photo below a few pages back. One advantage that Peace Ark has over Mercy is that Peace Ark is always manned and ready. Where as Mercy is manned only for special missions.

I cannot see which are PLA Navy ships. Only a US carrier and a JMSDF flattop can be seen.
