The PLAN task force is slowly making its way toward Hawaii. It stopped over in Singapore for a little joint maneuver...

Actually, what happened was that the four PLAN vessels rendezvoused with the Singapore Frigate, RSS Intrepdi, and the US Navy Ticonderoga AEGIS crusier USS Chosin, the US AEGIS Destroyer, USS Howard, and two Darussalam Class Patrol Boats from Brunei between Guam and the Philippines.

This was according to plan. The US, Chinese, and Singapore vessels will now travel together to Hawaii as a Joint Task Force.

Their rendezvous and their traveling together as a Joint Task Force is actually a part of RIMPAC 2014.

Great shots. One question, why is the replenishment ship leading the taskforce? Don't replenishment ships usually trail behind?

Which country do the two small ships behind the hospital ship belong to?
Those are two Brunei Darussalam Class Patrol Boats. They are 80m long, have a 57mm main gun, carry four Exocet missiles and a landing pad for a helicopter. Brunei has three of them. They were built at Luerssen Shipyard in Germany.

It's just a photo op. In any realistic exercises or actual combat, it would not be leading and they would not be all bunched up like that.

What you have there are a couple of Brunei patrol vessels taking the opportunity to be a part of the local exercise, and then the Multi-national task force of the Chinese ships, the US ships, and the Singapore frigate will sail on to Hawaii and RIMPAC 2014.

Nice to see Brunei being able to send ships to participate. Think Brunei took delivery of a fourth in May 2014.

Wonder if the Chinese replenishment ship will provide any service to the patrol boats on that voyage across the Pacific? It's like asking a type 056 to sail across the Pacific. Do-able but probably stretching its capability.

The type 056 can always refuel at Pearl before heading back to home port once they're done.

I am curious about naval expenses for a PLAN trip to Hawaii.

How are the expenses calculated; from manpower to ship by ship expenses. I am calculating anywhere from a few millions USD per ship

Just curious about the figures... Can anybody advise perhaps?

Thanks.

Look at that Sea, I mean, it's so blue, so deep blue....

That's where ships belong, that where sailor belong, not some yellow muddy pond near ports....
