Gotta give the Koreans credit. They have three of these, and are planning three more.

The most heavily armed AEGIS vessels on the planet.

128 VLS tubes, sixteen SSMs, 21 RAM Missiles, and the 30mm Goal Keeper, along with the two helos.

When I sailed the Sevens Seas there were no women aboard any Naval ships except;

from wiki

We did not even imagine that such a thing would ever happen aboard a carrier.

True but nowadays there are a lot of women on board and from the pics I see of PLAN it appears they do as well.

OUTSTANDING pics, Asif!

The PLAN has a lot to be proud of with this deployment to RIMPAC, and seeing the Type 052C and the Burke together is a really neat thing.

Outstanding is certainly the word Jeff I know we and many others have been looking forward to such a pic for a long time coming a Type 052C and a Burke and now we have it right there

Just like we envisaged the Liaoning with its escorts we seen that too many milestones accomplished

The Type 052C and the Arleigh Burke in my opinion have just ushered in a new era of maritime operations might be a little far fetched but a Chinese navy DDG and USN DDG together sailing basically means two top world powers operating together and that is a new era of maritime operations even if it's just in a excercise

Big naval development huge significance

I could just picture sailors on both ships looking at the other, thinking to themselves 'yeah, we could take you.' The China Navy has come a long way indeed.

Now this might offend some of our Chinese members but that is certainly not my intention So I apologise in advance just in case

There is many in the USN that believe to some extent that China has enjoyed the economic success it has because of the security the USN 7th fleet forward based in Yokosuka Japan has provided

Now this may be a long shot and like I said I am not saying all of China's success belongs elsewhere but certainly some do think because of the presence of the 7th fleet Asian country's have enjoyed a secure environment where they could concentrate on their economy's and prosper

Again not my opinion but the opinion of many within the USN so in a way they can only be too glad to finally see Chinese navy come out in force in a friendly sense which is probably the reasoning behind the RIMPAC invitation in the first place

And finally professional sailors on the sea are sailors on the sea they are held together by that very bond when HMS Conqueror sunk the Belgrano in 1982 the sailors inside the RN SSN said they could smell smoke from the fire this is obviously not possible but in their mind they knew many Argentinian sailors had died and subcontiously could smell the of death of their counterparts

Can someone remove those silly smileys from my post my last one has a smile and the one before a angry face I did not add them and can't remove them?

The smileys are next to the topic heading at the very top of my post where it says Re:pLAN

Hmmm...I am not sure how to do that.

I would expect that it was a setting for your own profile...but will check into it. I noticed your last message did not have one.

Naval Today said:
The hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH19) departed for the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2014 exercise in Hawaii, June 16.

RIMPAC, officially scheduled for June 26 to Aug. 1, is the world’s largest international maritime exercise. This year, 23 countries, 47 ships, six submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are scheduled to participate.

“The purpose of Mercy’s participation in RIMPAC is to further Pacific Fleet’s goal of engagements across the Pacific Ocean,” said Capt. Jeffery Paulson, commanding officer of the Medical Treatment Facility aboard Mercy. “In our case, it’s to further health engagements where we have an opportunity to interact with many of our international partners.”

Mercy is traveling from its homeport of Naval Base San Diego to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, where it will train medical staff underway in casualty care. They will be simulating casualties and utilizing high-tech medical mannequins for training.

RIMPAC will be the first time at sea for many of the Sailors assigned to Mercy, which include a large group of medical officers and hospital corpsman assigned to Naval Medical Center San Diego.

This will be the first time that Mercy participates in RIMPAC, an exercise that began in 1971. RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity for participants to foster and sustain cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans.

USNS Mercy will participate with the Chinese Navy (PLAN) Hosptial Ship Peace Ark in this year's exercises. It's the first time two hospital ships from different countries have conducted such exercises at RIMPAC.

The quality of Mercy is not strained; it droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the Peace Ark beneath.

Apologies to the Great Bard.
