OUTSTANDING pics, Asif!

The PLAN has a lot to be proud of with this deployment to RIMPAC, and seeing the Type 052C and the Burke together is a really neat thing.

Here's a set of RIMPAC 2014 pictures I am putting together. There will be more, and I will have a Flickr album for it too.

The US Navy was going to have the USS Independence participate virtually, but decided to have her go over to Hawaii to actively participate there, while the USS Coronado, LCS-4, actively participates off of San Diego.

The US Navy vessels (including US Coast Guard) are always the largest participant. This year, these vessels will participate (including in a separate operation of RIMPAC 2014 being conducted with other nations off San Diego)

USS Cape St. George (CG 71)
USS Chosin (CG 65)
USS Gary (FFG 51)
USS Independence (LCS 2)
USS Lake Champlain (CG 57)
USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112)
USS Peleliu (LHA 5)
USS Port Royal (CG 73)
USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60)
USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76)
USS Rushmore (LSD 47)
USS Sampson (DDG 102)
USS Spruance (DDG 111)
USNS Henry J. Kaiser (T-AO 187)
USNS John Ericsson (T-AO 194)
USNS Mercy (T-AH 19)
USNS Navajo (T-ATF 169)
USNS Rainier (T-AOE 7)
USNS Salvor (T-ARS 52)
USCGC Waesche (WMSL 751)
USS Anchorage (LPD 23)
USS Champion (MCM 4)
USS Coronado (LCS 4)
USNS Montford Point (T-MLP 1)
USS Scout (MCM 8)
US SSN Nuclear Attack submarines x 3

That's 28 vessels. The US will also have well over 100 aircraft involved.

26 vessels from 16 other nations are participating with several dozen aircraft as well.

And which nations have the second largest active participants in terms of vessels?

Why that distinction goes to only two. Both China and Canada will have four vessels participating.

Korea will have three, and several nations will have two vessels participating.

I could just picture sailors on both ships looking at the other, thinking to themselves 'yeah, we could take you.' The China Navy has come a long way indeed.

Nope..not at all for the Americans. As someone that has been in that position of observing other nations vessels this is what I use to think;

1) I wonder what type of accommodations they have?
2) How's the chow?
3) Do they get to go to "good liberty ports"?
4) How much do they get paid?

I may have been naive but never once did I think I'd have to fight those other sailors.

Yes it is.

And the Norwegian Nansen class AEGIS FFG too.

This is the first time Norway has participated...which is kind of lost in the big news about the PLAN's first time particiaption.

You forgot another important point.
Are there many women sailors on that ship? if so are they good looking?

but yes you are correct.. unless we're in a state of war or engaged in some sort of conflict most sailors view other sailors as brothers. We certainly don't think about putting another ship at the bottom of the sea! Maybe during the Cold war when tensions were high between USN and the USSR but that's over 25 yrs ago.
I know the USN will do their utmost to make the navies of other nations feel welcome at RIMPAC and certainly PLAN since this is their first time. We leave the saber rattling to the politicians.

When I sailed the Sevens Seas there were no women aboard any Naval ships except;

from wiki

Female crewmembers

In October 1978, while in San Diego, Samuel Gompers took women on board as crew members for the first time; one of the first ships in the fleet to do so. In the next few years, all destroyer tenders, and all non-combative auxiliaries, would have women aboard. Combat ships other than submarines would follow suit beginning in the 1990s.

We did not even imagine that such a thing would ever happen aboard a carrier.

OK, I'm convinced. I was wrong in my previous posting, and I now believe as you outlined.
