Nice, very nice, soon they will have 4 Type 903/A replenishment tankers, a welcomed addition to PLAN and a much needed capability addressed especially after anti-piracy missions

889 is looking closer to joining the 886 and 887

890 to follow soon, a very wellcome addition to PLAN

Which now means China has 6 and soon to be 7 replenishment tankers for its navy

For the current FFG and DDG fleet that is ok but but for anything else they will need to add more units

This ship could do fresh water, fuel and stores refuelling but I'm not sure if it can store and transfer ammunition, also can it refuel and replenishment a air craft carrier with both ship and aviation fuel?

I would think for that kind of replenishment a tanker would need to be 35,000 +tons so although these are a good addition they are still in need for more tankers, I would say at least another four, two more 30,000 tons and two more 35,000 ton tankers for carrier and cruiser refuelling, in all 12 tankers for PLAN

Ok for fleets

SSF has 887 and 885
ESF has 886 and 882
NSF has 881 and 889

Likely that 890 will go to SSF

So the fleet stands at 7 tankers but I see 881 and 882 retiring soon because PNS Nasr is due to be replaced in 2016 by a new Turkish designed replenishment tanker built at Karachi, so I can't see China using the same platform for much longer

I would guess that soon PLAN will be back down to 5 tankers again, so 889 might be replacing 881 and 890 might replace 882 and end up going to ESF

Partially OT, but can the type 056s conduct RAS with these fleet supply vessels? I've seen footage where a type 051 can but they are much larger in displacement. I've also seen footage of a type 037 only having supplies being transferred by plank as the ship pulled up alongside the supplying vessel but both ships appeared to be stopped in the water. So I'm wondering how the type 056 would resupply at sea. I can see helo for goods but not fuel.
