neither that. Varyag was built in soviet union. Its not a true chinese aircraft carrier.
All you have to do is read the Chinese forums to know that a lot of Chinese, both oon the mianland and around the world will celebrate and be overjoed when the PLAN launches their first aircraft carrier...even the Varyag. They have reached out and made it their own over the years and the expectations have built up over thaat time.
.
I dont think that chinese people will feel much about it as they felt about j-20

IMO, in the first months/year they should keep low profile and not make much out of it, cause if not it could really play into the "china threat" theory.
It's going to do that in any case, and to some extent, understndably so. But none the less, it will be quite the accomplishment and something the Chinese people, particularly those who for years have been pushing for a stronger Navy, will celebrate.

A simple question: Where is Varyag now? Last time I search Google Earth and did not find it in Dalian, the place where it used to dock at. The Google image dated Oct 2009.

there is another aspect: the diplomacy aspect. Aircraft carriers are force projecting assets, unlike fighter jets which can be showed as being defensive in nature. As a nation, china has every right to have aircraft carriers. However, no one likes to have a single party nation equipped with aircraft carriers in its vicinity. China´s neighbours are going to have to live with it, but china must be careful on how they present it. IMO, in the first months/year they should keep low profile and not make much out of it, cause if not it could really play into the "china threat" theory.
What's so bad about single party state ( not nation ) compared with the US, which is aggressive under Republican and Democratic administrations.

I have high expectation for the new Journey to the West. The producer for the new series is Zhang Jizhong who is known for special effects and epic scenes. As we all know, this novel is all about special effects. So I think Zhang would be an excellent choice to make the series. I've watched the trailer and it looks cool.

As it happens, there is a star-studded movie based on the novel that will be released this year. Rather interesting given the religious nature of Journey to the West whilst CCP is atheist.

Nonetheless, will be looking forward to this series.

I don't think the CCP has any problem with the religious part of it at all, especially since the first TV series was made in the early 80's when things were not as open as now. Also, an animated movie based on the first part of the novel (about the Monkey King messing with the whole Heaven's court and defeating all 100,000 troops and ALL the great generals single-handedly) was made in 60's in the height of all the crazy anti-anything-ancient-China. So yeah, I don't the CCP has any problem with it at all.

LOL, if anything, Journey to the West is ANTI-religious.

The first part depicts Sun Wukong fighting against the Heaven Emperor and defeating 10,000 Celestial Soldiers.

The second part depicts a Tang Seng (the representative of religion) as being a kind-hearted but incompetent fool who is unable to distinguish between good and evil, and whose first reaction to any danger is to call to Wukong for help.
