It actually a online vote on which aircraft to used on the carrier and using skyjumps or catapult. So far J-10 is winning by large margin (su-33 a distant second) and people prefer catapult to skyjump 4 to 1.

Maybe China will the first country in the world to design military weapons based on anonymous online polling!:rofl:
The Inclusion of the L-15 is a reminder though, thatthere is more to building an aircraft carrier fleet than just the carrier and its fighter aircraft. Pilots must be trained the intricate art of flying on and off an aircraft carrier. I think its a given now that, while the PLAAF weights in on the JL-9 and L-15 (with some hints of favouring the JL-9, but that could all be smoke and mirrors), the PLANAF on the other hand, does not have as a wide of choice as their land based counter-part and other than the L-15, I haven't heard of any other aircraft that would really work or would be plausible.

It's a shame they don't have a symbol of the speculated "J-13"/Chinese naval flanker there. I'd vote that out of all of them. The pic that that's on huitong's site looks really good

They can't really show it because.... nobody knows what the J-13 will be. The Flanker variant is just one of dozens of semi-credible designs floating around. On the same article, huitong also has pictures of a trapezoidal wing configuration aircraft that he says are more recent than the flanker ones.

True, it's another one of those ones which aren't fully "real". For all we know the trapezoidal wing and the "stealthy flanker" ones could be different planes all together.

We'll probably find out sooner than half a decade (wow, that just reminds I'm just a whipper-snapper compared to guys like bd popeye! ), but that really depends if the pro-carrier camp in the PLAN prevail over the anti-carrier admirals.

one Air Craft Configuration I am wondering about the possibility of putting on a Flat top is the Foreword swept Wing Configuration Like the SU47 "Firkin".
Although built as a flight demonstrator; Sukhoi is said too have marketed it too Other nations. the Foreword swept wing has a lower minimum flight speed For landing on the deck, a shorter take-off and landing distance no doubt offering better take offs from a ski jump , higher lift-to-drag ratio and higher range at subsonic speed good things too have when competing for air dominance against Land based Fighters.

The problem with the sky jump is the MTOW, the best example is the Kuznetsov along with Su-33, those plane never carried more than 4 AAM's and they are not that numerous on the deck, only 15 max to be boarded. It seems that they can't carry that much fuel, therefore, the role of the carrier borne plane is purely defensive, and this is for what they were designed for, the Kuznetsov is more a Cruiser than a carrier aircraft despite his design, it carries 12 P-700 Granit missiles, and 192 3K95 kinzhal SAM's.
On the contrary, the CATOBAR design permits a higher MTOW for jets and the ship is more a floating airbase than a cruiser.
