Yes, they are.

Well, these are 250kg dumb bombs on JH-7. A fair bit smaller than the ones on J-15.

Where as a CATOBAR F/A-18 might in a pinch launch with full internal fuel, defensive AAW ordinance, and a significant A2G ordinance, I suspect Su-33/J-15 in CATOBAR mode can't.

It's not a special event when when a Hornet launches with a full load.

It wasn't that long ago when some people boldly proclaimed that it will take years and many deaths before China can successfully trap an aircraft on a carrier. China performed successful traps and more within a year.

The tempo of operations aboard CV-16 is at a very, very slow pace. Making it a much safer environment to operate on a flight deck...three aircraft does not make an air wing.

At the pace the PLAN is proceeding it will be years before their carrier force is fully operational.

Honestly I'd like to see the PLAN step up their operational tempo aboard CV-16 a bit... and maintain there margin of safety.

The J-15s are not painted in PLAN colors as they are prototypes undergoing experiments. As part of those experiments, the PLAN will need to verify the maximum load at which the J-15 can safely takeoff. This means those dummy ordinances must have equal weight to their real life counterparts, or those experiments as well as trainings will be completely meaningless. There is no assumption here, as it is simply common sense.

ordinance = an authoritative decree or direction : a law set forth by a governmental authority; specifically : a municipal regulation

ordnance = military supplies including weapons, ammunition, armor, vehicles, etc.

Nevertheless, PLAN has defied prediction of some people. So, my advise to new comers is that they need to revise their expectations.

With regards to high-tempo operation, the news anchor also mentioned the crew have launched and recovered the aircraft in rapid succession. Of course, doing so with three aircraft is easier than doing so with a full complement.

Exactly... But don't we as PLAN observers and let's face it "fans" want to see the progress of the carrier programme just a little faster? I know I do!

This is what we all want to see..sooner than later!

Holy cow, that's some 30 odd J-15s on deck. It will be a hell of a job to move them aside for an emergency landing, even for an experienced USN deck crew I suspect.

I wonder if the "36 aircraft" airwing is total, or is merely J-15. There's a few places which state the top aircraft load for a kuznetsov is 50 planes, so I suspect they probably could board that many J-15s in emergencies... But that's probably similar to how it's commonly stated that supercarriers can load 100+ aircraft when standard deployments are usually more like 80.

Actually it looks like 25 J-15s and 4 Z-9 Helicopters.

During any high tempo launches like that the parked aircraft would not block the trap wires and landing area.

And these days, though a US super carrier can carry over 90 aircraft, the current air wing embarked is almost always between 60 and 70...maybe 72.
