They might float CV17 this year and push the project harder, if China's political leaders feel the need to launch deterrence assets sooner.Yes...this is a significant milestone.
But there is still lots to do.
They still have to complete the deck and button it up (close it). Clearly they have some significant equipment they are still loading into the vessel which is why those large openings still exist in the flight deck.
They still have both elevators to add to the vessel.
They may have weapons/equipment sponsons to add on the other side...we just can't see there yet.
...and of course, they have the island to lift.
Once all of that is done, they have a LOT of wiring, plumbing, control, equipment, etc. to do internally just to get to the launch stage.
I expect launch will certainly not occur in 2016. It (IMHO) will be in 2017.
But time will tell, and there is no doubt that the PLAN is making very good. steady progress.
I have very strong doubts about this. They might float CV17 this year and push the project harder, if China's political leaders feel the need to launch deterrence assets sooner.
Normally I'd agree with you, but a new article from Henry K. gave me pause. In it, he said Chinese leadership under President Hu pushed CV17 for deterrence purposes. Here's the link to the article:I have very strong doubts about this.
The PLAN and the PRC leadership have been pretty strong on these major naval projects and not allowing them to be politicized, or influenced by such events.
That can always change...I'm just saying I do not expect it. There is really no need to.
That's a decent article.Normally I'd agree with you, but a new article from Henry K. gave me pause. In it, he said Chinese leadership under President Hu pushed CV17 for deterrence purposes. Here's the link to the article:
