Also, insider information suggests that the hull below the waterline has been modified for improved hydrodynamics and speed. This very possibly means that the hull length has actually been increased for a better fineness ratio, or an improved bow shape more modern than the typical bulbous bow. Or perhaps even (in my dreams) an auxiliary rudder for better a better turning radius.
As we don't have any visual evidence to suggest what the ship looks like below the waterline, neither photographs nor satellite imagery, there is no way of knowing if 001A's dimensions are greater or smaller than Liaoning's, or if they remained unchanged. However, my guess would be a slightly lengthened hull, at least below the waterline.
