The Chinese may use mobile airforce equipment on their carrier, something like
, because at this moment they have no carrierborn approach system.
Nah, there are a couple of good sized fixed rear looking array on the aft of Liaoning for that role.
In the picture below (relevant part circled in red) -- if one traces the landing strip's central line down to the aft, you'll come across a distinctive rectangular array, and a second similar "vertical" array next to it.
I remember back when Liaoning was still being refitted, and the holes in the hull were cut out and equipped with arrays, that these arrays were speculated to be for landing approach.
Whatever the camoflauged modules on Liaoning is, we know that it shouldn't be essential to the aircraft carrier's function, because it was only there for a little while and we haven't seen it there in pictures and videos since (meaning if it were something as essential like instruments for landing, it should constantly be on the ship).
I think the camoflauged modules were merely some additional telemetry systems or testing equipment for the carrier's initial workup and have since been removed quite a while ago.
I sincerely doubt they were any DEW modulesl..
