earlier this year I suggested that one of the hulls at Jiang shipyard looks different from any other civilian vessels and resembles an early stage of a carrier construction.
thanks to GE and Icloo this theory must be considered confirmed.

hope Jeff will be able to admit he was wrong;)

No, that is not an aircraft carrier, that is a container carrier. You can see the Lego-like structure to fit with the containers on the bottom.

That is not type 001A aircraft carrier. The first piece of steel for the aircraft carrier was laid down in the dry dock in March this year. And you can't tell the shape of the ship until October .

Meanwhile, from CJDBY here is a graphic illustration on current status of the ship.

The ammo lift and the hangar floor are as per Liaoning. They may be different on Type 001A. I wonder will they retain or discard the rotating floor next to the lift as on Liaoning.

Oh...since this is a new Chinese build...it most certainly could have been modified.

In fact, I think it has been modified and is probably now an opening into the vessel for a munitions magazine with lifts up to the main deck in the vicinity of the forward launch points.

But...who knows, really?

Time will tell.
Yes, new build, but not a new design. Modification would require some redesign, but based on recent development, I believe PLAN is being ultra conservative and that there isn't going to be any difference between this ship and Liaoning.

They have had more than ten years to consider rearranging the internals of the ship. They have done what was possible without greatly altering the structure in Liaoning but there can be no reason not to go further in this ship. They have the theories and computers to find out strength and stiffness before building the ship.

So everyones thoughts is that they put the muitions in the strongest part of the ship, and then elevator it up onto the hanger bay? What about elevators up to the flight deck? why not just collate all the elevators into one shaft?
