CG? PLAN developing a CG for their CBG? And no, Type 055 isn't a CG. Don't forget the SSN.
I think during peacetime or conducting actions against a low tech foe they will probably only adopt ~5 escorts, but during wartime against a high tech foe, I imagine they may strongly increase the number of escorts.
I also strongly believe there will be a role for frigates in any carrier strike group
055 seems to still be called a "large guided missile destroyer" in most parlance... but I don't doubt that it will have a role as a guided missile cruiser in the Chinese Navy's future carrier strike groups and battle groups.
Of course there will always be an SSN presence for a CSG too, which Asif mentioned in his previous post.

Cruiser, destroyer, frigate, escort - doesn't matter. Call it surface combatant. Any carrier will have at least one - as plane guard - in peacetime ... and many in wartime. Surface combatants can be hired from other navys, as the German frigate Augsburg protects the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.
I believe a typical peacetime CSG for either the Liaoning, or for 001A, will be:
2 x Type 054A/B FFG
2 x Type 052D DDG
1 x Type 055 DDG
1 x Type 093/095 SSN
Usually the UNREP group is separate from the carrier when she is conducting exercises, so usually I do not count her or her escort as a part of the CSG.
It is likely that in a known war time period in any potential threat condition where the carrier itself could be threatened, that the carrier group would be augmented by more escorst. Two or three additional FFGs/DDGS, and a second SSN.

Two or three SSNs could be added..

Increased in cost, yes but not that much, but the skill and speed to build will definitely increase also, therefore the program will be more than double any other Asian nations.
Could it be that there are some certain illegal herbs in his tea so that the images become more and more psychedelic ?? He should better turn to French red wine or German beer.
