I believe at first they need position marked out where all the bottom most pieces will go. For the bottom part they decided to build the compartment outlines first then fill up the needed parts. I think it will be cumbersome to try assemble the bottom most sections sideways module wise, so they took extra care to line up everything properly.
Now I think progress will be faster, because once the bottom layer has been defined and fixed in place it is much easier (relatively) to slot the top pieces down in modules. Also the modules could have been built separately while they are laying the foundation so if some parts are already completed we could see even faster progress.
Maybe in another 6-7 month's time which is June next year we'll see her with angled deck, bow and maybe even bridge finished.
Doing PLA watching makes one wish that months would go past a bit faster, but also not too fast. Because how many six months does one have in one's life?
