ROC govt defence reports on China are not the most reliable, often times they tend to exaggerate the threat a little... and also tend to miss out on things.

In this case, what they're claiming might technically be true, as it is expected that China will be building two carriers at a time, and if DL's hull is 001A, and if JN's 002 has started to construct some of the individual parts for modules for assembly in a few years then in a sense one could say that China is "building" two carriers at a time.

At the very least they got their locations right; Dalian and Shanghai, so that's worth something I suppose.

DDLG水兵 of CJDBY posted birds eye view of Dalian. Looks to me like there are some extra stuff(small crane?) right around the elevator opening area if this is 001A?

I believe the things you've circled are just the bridges/platforms between the drydock and the ship...

We wouldn't see the elevators so early, they haven't even sealed up the lower hull yet or started to erect the hangar walls.

Earlier on the thread (quite a few posts back) I responded to the one member's post where he indicated that the building/construction was up to the hanger deck.

I indicated that in that case, the supporting structure would be in place and we could see it.

I also indicated that if the poster was wrong, and the construction was still well below the hanger deck, this would not be the case.

Yes, I agree that it most definitely is not quite at the level of the hangar deck. That's what I mean when they say they haven't sealed up the lower hull.

But I also posted a page or two back that building up to the hangar deck may not necessarily mean we will see supporting structures for the elevator immediately. I think what will happen is that the hangar deck and its walls will go up first, and then the supporting structure for the elevator once it's all in place.

Chances are we'll see the walls of the hangar go up first, and then the supporting structures for the elevators some time after.

Jeff, from what you see today, are you leaning more towards a CV or LHA/D?

What do you think this is? Part of angle deck? or elevator deck?

Heh, looking at this pictures, ill have to say that my belief that this isnt a militar vessel is getting stronger. Also i seeing GE images of chinese shipyards, they build their civilian large ships like they are building this one (havent checked other countries). In fact, i see a ship under construction in JN shipyard that ressembles this dalian hull somewhat.
