@popeye; the same reason the PLA is so secretive for everything. Because try ddo not want potential competitors to know what their present capabilities are. For carriers it is more important because they are such an important potentially strategic capability.

It isn't because the plan might introduce something the USN haven't seen before and more to do with they just don't want the USN to know where they are in terms of capability

What you post is true. Very true. I wish the US DoD was not so open at times about what the US military is doing.

As for what the PLAN may be trying to hide from the USN about the capabilities of CV-16...

....but I bet my last ball cap that the USN has been shadowing the ship for some time now and knows the score..All of us would like to know what is really going on.

Much of the US defence strategy IMO revolves around the idea of deterrence through demonstrating strength.
So by demonstrating new developments and new weapons the idea is that they can deter potential foes.
For China, I think their deterrence policy revolves around hiding strength and portraying ambiguity about capability such that any potential foes do not really know how capable China is so will not only have to expend resources to discover the true capability, but also have to face the possibility that in event of open conflict, that China may be much more capable than they were initially expecting.

I don't doubt that the USN has been shadowing the Liaoning, but nevertheless it would be prudent for the Chinese Navy to still withhold as much information from the public as possible until they are no longer deemed time sensitive or important.
