That was the same pier that was constructed for Liaoning a year or two before and we were discussing about it.

Sorry if my question was misleading: The same pier YES, but is this image a recent one that proves that the Liaoning is back home ?!

Don't think so. I believe I've seen the picture before.
Also, if CV 16 were home, you'd see photos taken on the ground before photos taken in the air.

The picture was part of a photo set showing various PLAN vessels at sunset, not representative of recent photos, I believe.

I personally find this highly dubious. Since we don't know when that photo was taken and we don't know how long she has been there, but this is the first sign of life of the Liaoning. So unless we have newer and better sources of information coming in I will put the current sea trial down to 39 days which is the longest she has been out to sea. The media in China is now paying less attention to the Liaoning as the novelty of having an aircraft carrier and having planes taking off and landing on it has somewhat worn out. So tracking the Liaonings activity has become more difficult.

first sea trial (10 august 2011 – 13 august 2011) (3 days)
second sea trial (28 november 2011 – 10 december 2011) (12 days)
third sea trial (20 december 2011 – 29 december 2011) (9 days)
fourth sea trial (7 january 2012 – 16 january 2012) (9 days)
fifth sea trial (19 april 2012 – 30 april 2012) (11 days)
sixth sea trial (7 may 2012 – 16 may 2012) (9 days)
seventh sea trial (23 may 2012 – 1 june 2012) (9 days)
eighth sea trial (7 june 2012 – 21 june 2012 ) (14 days)
ninth sea trial (6 july 2012 – 30 july 2012) (24 days)
tenth sea trial (27 august 2012 – 30 august 2012) (3 days)

under shipyard total 103 days at sea in 1 year and 1 month and 15 days

Sea trials under PLAN (commissioned on 25 september 2012)

fifth sea trial (1 september 2013 - 21 september 2013) (20 days)
sixth sea trial (23 october 2013 - 11 november 2013) (19 days)
seventh sea trial (26 november 2013 - 29 november 2013) (3 days)

ninth sea trial (2 march 2014 - 18 march 2014) (16 days)

I would dispute that, actually.

We've never really relied on Chinese media to follow liaoning's progress -- it has always been the BBS giving us the constant updates. And remember this latest trial is the first one since the major refit, so if liaoning had returned to one of its ports we would know about it pretty quickly.. And obviously the idea that the BBS are paying less attention is doubtful too, given how often they update is on everything else related to PLAN that canbe considered far more mundane than liaoning. Not to mention liaoning's standard ports aren't exactly remote, so if it had returned, someone would've snapped it with a smartphone and posted it on weibo by now.

But the biggest factor to support the idea that it is still at sea, is that it is completely expected. At this point in its operation, it makes complete sense for PLAN to be sending its CV and crew on longer duration exercises or trials as they may be.

I'm not sure why you would consider that liaoning photo to be evidence of liaoning's return to port, because there is nothing to suggest it was taken recently, and a few people have suggested it is an old photo.

Oh, and just to settle that picture once and for all -- a reverse google image search shows the same picture was posted as early as March 2013.

Boom. done.
