That's being discussed on the PLAN LHD/LPH thread. It looks much more like a LHD/LPH amphibious assault vessel.

If the starboard structure amidships is an island, and if the indentation at the aft, port quarter is an elevator, then it surely is an LHD/LPH.

But blowing up the image and refining it, it is just not clear that that is what those are.

It could just be shadows and look that way...but it is an intriguing pic for sure...and if it is an LHD/LPH and it is that far along, we will know for sure soon.

So GT just posted this over on CDF, what appears to be a module of a large ship, with a hangar like space in it, and a cavity on the side of the hull for what may be an elevator.
I'm wondering if it could be the first module for a carrier.

Comparing it with pics of modules of QE, it does share some similarities.

I looked for similar pics of the USS Ford under construction, but it didn't seem to be built in modules as large as the QE.

There is a slight issue with the picture I posted, that is to say, the hangar space seems to be rather small compared to the rest of the ship, but comparing the width of the elevator with the width of the hangar, it seems to be a similar ratio with other carriers:

Basically, I think that picture definitely is something we should keep an eye on, and to my amateur eye looks suspiciously like a large cross sectional module of a carrier, even if the hangar appears a tad small... What do you guys think?

(btw, this picture at the moment seems completely unrelated to the picture at JNCX of the LHA/D)

I agree with you -- this module does seem to match up to the the LHA/D's shape. (And the cranes could match the shipyard where the LHA/D is sitting). Let's shift return the discussion back at the LHA thread then lol

I've measured the height to width ratio, it is approximately 1:5. Isn't it relatively wide? USS Nimitz has a ratio of 1:4.3

I really don't see how you fellows get an CV/LHD/LPH/LHA out of those photos. Really.. Has anything in those photos been confirmed as an CV/LHD/LPH/LHA?

And that link to Shanghai Hobby does not load up..for me.

It won't - it's a member's only page. Most of the major Chinese military fora require registration before you can see attachments. HSH is more draconian than most.

There's all sorts of noise about how these may be modules... or scaled proof-of-concept modules for a CV... and those groves are interpreted as space for catapult rail - a bit too speculative for me at the moment. I am not even convinced that these modules are the same as those seen in dock 3 (in the LHA thread).
