The Chinese have studied USN carrier ops meticulously from both open sources and perhabs not so open sources. They now have the Liaoning for more than a year and they have to adapt the American carrier ops plans to their own circumstances and needs. They have been through the theories over and over again and now the challenge will be to put those theories in to practise. It will take a long time for them to achieve a high tempo of operations as on the USN carriers.

Perhaps they don't need to achieve a high tempo operation of USN ...... they have different objectives and goals

Even half as high as USN tempo would be considered very successful for PLAN (I know it would be more, perhaps 75% as high as USN tempo). Honestly, is there any other country has achieved 50% of USN high tempo ? perhaps only CDG and future British QE2?

Just take a look at where the landing area cuts across the deck and how much room there is to either side on the Nimits, particularly to port, and you can see.

The actual dimensions are as follows:

Nimitz class deck widest width is 252 feet.
Nimitz deck length is 1,092 feet.

Kuznetsov/Liaoning deck widest width is 237 feet.
Kuznetsov/Liaoning deck length is 992 feet.

That widest on the Kuznetsov/Liaoning is for a short distance just aft of the angled take-off deck. It loses another 6-8 feet after that. The deck is also 100 feet shorter.

In addition, the entire bow is thinner, and also not suitable for spotting aircraft, where on the US Nimitz an entire row of aircraft can be spotted along one side of the bow while one of the cats is in use there...or on both sides if the bow cats are not being used.

Makes a huge difference/

shape is critical. A strict length by with fails to take into consideration the fact that no carrier deck is a rectangle. Even on LHA types there are places where the deck changes with and angle.

They need high tempo operation as well, but for only a small number of aircraft. They will have the same 40 seconds between every trapp, but after six aircraft the recovery phase is over - and not after thirty aircraft. That is the difference.
And that is a big difference.

All very fine observations gentlemen, they are making progress, and I for one am glad to see her ported farther south for the winter.

Based on this i would say Liaoning is back in port in Qingdao. Unless other information comes to light.

Well, when sending her down there, the PLAN indicated she would be there for a few months I thought.

Hmmm...we shall have to see, but I thought that they specifically said that she would winter there to avoid the conditions further north.

I do not think the locator is an "official" Maritime locator site. More of a convenience. If a nation of registry wants a vessel tracked, they will continually update it, if not...well, there's nothing says they have to.

What is the last one, the one that looks like shark? The same image is also on the envelope sitting underneath the stamps.

It reads 蛟龙 if you look at the lower illustration carefully.

Jiaolong (simplified Chinese: 蛟龙号; traditional Chinese: 蛟龍號; pinyin: jiāolóng hào flood dragon) is a Chinese manned deep-sea research submersible that can dive to a depth of over 7,000 m. It has the greatest depth range of any manned research vehicle in the world, the only manned expeditions to have gone deeper were the dives of the Trieste bathyscaphe in 1960 and the dive of the Deepsea Challenger in 2012, both diving to Challenger Deep. However, those vessels could not navigate horizontally along the bottom of the sea bed, severely limiting their scientific exploration capability.

yes that is correct. I believe that last stamp is a picture of the Jiaolong DSV.

I think the stamp set represents China's innovation/progress in the areas of space, air/sea and sub surface.
