I don't see any radar screens or glass charts, no one's wearing a headset and the place doesn't look super secure either. I think there is a high probability that this isn't the CIC but a ship internal operations control room. Note the LED board at the back, I think it looks like some kind of a fire warning system.

I wish we could see the CIC .. it could tell us a lot about the Liaoning.

Yep, I agree completely.

It really is interesting to see the ship so well overhauled for the twenty first century. The Kuznetsov class definitely weren't the most successful carrier design, but the PLAN certainly haven't spared any expense to make it as modern, ergonomic, and capable, as the hull allowed.

Possibly CIC? Or just one of the carrier's many control rooms for whatever purposes. The consoles don't look like the typical current generation CIC consoles. I like the exposed overhead wiring and piping too, means easier to maintain and control damage if hit.

Looks like engineering control to me. The whole scene remains me of the control room of a modern power station.

Nope I think plawolf is correct, that is engineering. CIC is very dark so shipmates can read their gear.

Yep, I wasn't seriously suggesting it was the CIC, and i also believed it was some other type of control room instead.

However, PLAN CICs aren't always dark in pictures, because they often turn on the lights to allow the cameras to take clearer photos. I'm sure the lights are off during typical operations, and we've had a fair few more recent videos and photos to suggest that is the case, however it is just a caveat worth noting.

I would really like to see the CIC aboard the 052D as well as the Liaoning. With that said, I do not recall ever seeing photos of Chinese CIC .. :(

Ah, well we've had a few pictures of a few select PLAN CICs.

The CIC of one of the first two 052Cs (I expect the second batch of 052Cs and especially the new 052Ds will have a more modern set up):

A peek of the CIC on an 056. Note the newer generation of console

And a few pictures of 054As CIC.

I too think that the interior picture of Liaoning is an engine control room of some sort. Also, PLAN needs to put some serious effort into ergonomics on ships by hiring more psychologists. PLAN obviously has no problem with hardware, but the CIC looks like it was cram with stations without much thought on other considerations.

Thanks Blitzo! Now that you've posted them, I do recall seeing some of those but what a great collection. Thanks.

I don't think the CICs look particularly crowded. Here's the CIC from a Tico for comparison.

Now it's true that this is an old ship so maybe if someone can find a pic of the CIC from the Freedom LCS, we may be able to compare to a more modern layout.

Well newer european ships like type 45, FREMM or horizon have more starship enterprise esque CICs, as does the zumwalt.

Personally I don't think 054A and 052C CICs are that bad, imo a lot of it is the angle of the picture. I expect the newer generation of ships like 052D and so on will have sharper looking CICs as a result of thinner consoles, and probably, more spacious compartments to work with.

Even existing USN CICs for their cruisers and destroyers are sort of all over the place.

A burke's layout, I believe?

Yeah don't think it'the CIC either. Definitly not the catcc. The operations specialists usually has earphones. It's also way too bright and there is a big table in the middle of the room.
